 Quick Bio:
Likes: Gir likes car rides the most, I suppose.

Pet-Peeves: He doesn't like statues.

Favorite Toy: Sticks.

Favorite Food: Taste of the Wild/EVO on rotation until my time constraints let up, then back to raw.

Favorite Walk: The park, of course.

Best Tricks: He does an adorable 'up'.

Arrival Story: Gir's story is an interesting one. Ten years ago, my friend got a 'spayed' beagle from a rescue. In late 2007, she kept getting fatter and fatter- and then out popped puppies. A thirteen year old 'spayed' beagle gave birth to four puppies- one was black and tan with sky blue eyes, one was solid black with sky blue eyes, one was black and tan with normal brown eyes, and the fouth was Gir- red and tan with yellow-gold eyes.
At the time, I had a registered Chow-Chow puppy reserved with a breeder. I intended to show the puppy, whole nine yards- when I saw Gir, I just fell in love and that was that. I got him instead.

Bio: Gir is one year old. He's been hospitalized because of a rosebush not once but twice. Gir has been swimming, camping, hiking and he grew up on a horse farm. He has been to six states and will hopefully be going to the Convergence festival next year. I hope to compete in obedience classes with him; however, there aren't many contests within easy driving distance of me.

When George Gordon, Lord Byron's dog Boatswain died, among the virtues he extolled was 'strength without insolence.'
It has been this illusive trait which I have saught since this line first seized upon my imagination. Something about those words- strength without insolence- captured exactly what I was looking for in a dog. What a rare trait indeed- moreso in humans than in dogs.
And now I have it. Gir's rich, deep chestnut coat, as polished as a newly minted coin, stretches luxuriously over his bulging muscles. He's a strong dog, without a doubt. His veterinarian said he's the most muscular dog she's ever seen.
Everything about him is supple, strong, smooth and young. He's not very tall, not very heavy, but pound for pound very powerful- but there's nothing insolent about him.
Is it humanizing a dog to say that the dog is humble?
Gir is strong and desperately brave. There's not a cowed or timid bone in his body. He plays, but he's not silly. He works, but he's not just a worker. He's as perfect a companion as I could ever have designed for myself.
Gir is very obedient. I have never met a dog with more drive- drive to work, drive to exercise, drive to please, drive to learn, drive to hunt. It's not just random exuberance or hyperactivity; it's a very focused, fine-tuned projection of something within that wants to do and to learn. He is a dog that can run three miles and not get out of breath, pull a load without balking, seek and destroy vermin on command, but who goes down steps one at a time, ever-so-careful not to trip me, and who is trustworthy around small pet animals.
He can and will gladly learn anything I can attempt to teach him. With patience and understanding, I am able to instruct and he is grateful to be taught.
My only hope is that I can measure up to be the owner such a magnificent dog deserves.
