Arrival Story: I was a junior in high school, when my angel came into my life. I had a dog follow me home in the 3rd grade and it was a Border Collie mix. I had that dog until my freshman year of high school. She was diagnosed with bone cancer and I was devestated. My parents told me that if they ever saw an add for Border Collie puppies they would get one for me. Well my junior year of high school my stepmother came home with a cardboard box one night. As I walked up and peered into it, there was this little dog. As adorable as ever. The moment our eyes met it was love. I had never had a dog that was just specifically mine. I am one of four kids so all our dogs had been the family pets. But this little ball of fur was all mine. My household had been verbally abusive for a long time. And this was a secret that I hid from many people. But as soon as Bella came into my life I knew I wasn't alone anymore. She slept with me every night since she has been a baby. My stepmother then told me she had to sleep in her cage instead of with me. So I slept on the floor of our kitchen next to her cage for 3 months until she finally let me have her in my room again. The situation got worse and worse at home, and at the beguinning of my senior year, my stepmother made a threat against Bellas life. It was then I knew I had to get out. I dashed home from school before she got home from work and grabbed all the things I could, put Bella in the car and left. Without any thought of where I would go. But at the time it didn't matter because my best friend was in danger. We eventually begged an Aunt to let us stay with her. And we did until the summer after I graduated that year. That Aunt lived next to a busy highway. And one day when I was at work she let her grandson play with Bella. For those of you that don't know, Border Collies are athletes. They love to play ball, and frisbee and throw sticks. Well this young boy threw her ball into the highway just as a van was driving by. Needless to say it hit her straight on. When they called me I had to have my boyfriend Joe drive me home because I was so hysterical. We took her to the vets, and they told me she had a dislocated hip, and 3 pelvic fractures. The extent of the internal injuries were not known but there was this huge lump just hanging from her stomach so I knew it couldn't be good. I had to leave her there. I begged and begged them to let me stay but they wouldn't. So I stayed up the whole night pacing. They called me in the morning and told me the extent of the damage. The force of the van knocked her bladder completley off of where it sits in her pelvis. They had to do emergency surgery and also had to pop the hip back into place. I immediatley went there and sat at the vets for hours until they were done. I stayed and sat on the floor next to her cage until she woke up from being put under. It was a touchy situation. They told me there was a chance she would never walk again and that I should consider putting her down. While she was under I sat there and sang to her, and talked to her and told her how much I loved her. It must have worked because she came out of the surgery her old self. Except for the fact that she couldn't walk. Okay, Let me rephrase... she wasn't allowed to walk. She tried immediatley after waking up. Because of her bladder being so fragile she had no control over it. They carefully sewed as many sutchers and stitches into it as they could, but they told me it probably wouldn't work. And I would need to get a 4,000 dollar surgery to provide mesh to hold up her innards. But my little miracle proved them wrong again because it held. And is still holding today over a year later. The vets office told me I could visit anytime I needed to to make sure she was okay, and watch her until she could come home. But what they didn't expect was for me to literally sit with her from 8-5.... their hours of operation. Bella had been there for me every moment in my abusive household and I wasn't about to leave her in the time when she needed me most. I took books and read to her, I talked to her. I helped the nurses carry her in and out to the grass to help her potty because she couldn't walk. Finally after 2 weeks they sent her home. Well I didn't go home to my Aunts house. She was irresponsible with the most precious thing to me and I wasn't about to let her near Bella. So my wonderful boyfriends family let her stay with them. We put her cage on a old tv stand with wheels on the bottom and wheeled her everywhere with us. We put puppy pads on the floor, and an old playpen fence around them and made her, her own little space. I spent a week of all nighters with her cleaning up her messes until she regained control of her bladder. Bella is my inspiration. A week later she proved everyone wrong and began to walk again. And now a year later, she not only walks, but runs and jumps and plays frisbee. I have sacrificed everything I have to save her. And I am never going to leave her. I love her more than anything. We are moving into our first apartment in July 30th 2009. Together forever.

Today, Mom and Dad had a day just for me! They took me to one of my favorite places, Dad's Cabin and let me go swimming in the lake. Mommy and I swam and played fetch. I found a nice big stick and made sure it floated for when Mom threw it to me. We did that for awhile and then Mom took me out on the raft in the middle of the lake. At first I was scared, but then I relaxed and liked it very much. Dad sat on the beach and took pictures. He loves us very much. He told us that all day. Then we got out and dried off. While Mom and Dad sat, I went and sniffed and sniffed all the smells of the country. When I was dry we got into our jeep and drove somewhere new. I love walks, so today they took me to a new park, The Holland Park and we walked. I of course found another big stick and wanted to play fetch. It is my favorite game after all. After awhile we all got really tired. So we went home. I went straight to my comfy bed and took a nice long nap. I had such a good day. I love my Mom and Dad so much!
