Our story began on April 30, 2009. Mommy was running errands and happened to spot two spunky little puppies playing under a truck in a parking lot. It was an unusually hot day, and we were just trying to keep cool. She spotted a basket on the front porch of a nail salon, along with a bowl of kibble that looked like it had been sitting there for a while. Immediately she went and scooped us up; we gave her lots of kisses. Our Mommy's mommy went into the nail salon and asked the lady if we belonged to her... she said that her son gave us to her, but "you can do what you want with them".

We didn't get put back down.

Now, 2 years later, we are happy, healthy, and filled with more spunk than Mommy can handle. She's threatened us with boarding school, but we know that she's only kidding. We have a wonderful home! We love our basset siblings! Best of all, we've taught Mommy what it's like to save the life of an animal. Mommy has always supported animal shelters and rescues, but now that we are around, she views them in a new light.

We think that rescuing a pet from an animal shelter or rescue is one of the greatest things a person can do! Their are lots great dogs, cats, rodents, and birds in shelters all over the world that deserve to have a great home just like us! Right this moment, there are hundreds of thousands of animals just waiting for someone to come and give them a forever home!

Here is a poem that we wrote in honor of the wonderful people who have supported shelters and rescues:

Thank You

Thank you for speaking for us,
when we can not defend ourselves.
Thank you for always being around
to offer food, love, shelter, and hope.
Thank you for fighting to protect us,
and working to give us a better life.
Thank you for treating us with compassion,
when we can no longer fight.
Thank you for fighting for justice
when someone treats us wrong,
and thank you for rescuing us,
from a life full of loneliness and pain.

I Knew You Were the One

From the moment I saw your deep soulful eyes
peering at me through the cage bars,
I knew you were the one.

From the moment my hand stroked your
warm glossy coat, I realized that I needed you
as much as you needed me.

The moment your paw gently touched my knee
a space in my heart was filled and
I knew you would be mine forever:

my companion, my friend, my dog.

From the moment I saw your face
smiling at me through my cage bars
I knew you were the one.

From the moment your hand
gently stroked my head, I learned
that humans can be kind, and that I need you.

The moment you opened that cage door and said,
"Let's go home boy!"
I knew you would be mine forever:

my companion, my savior, my human.

Copper and Bailey came into my life on April 30, 2009. They did not come from a shelter, but they were on their way to one, or worse. It was an unusually hot day, and I was running errands. As I sat in the car waiting to go inside a store, I saw two tiny fur balls running underneath parked cars. I was shocked! They were only about 30 feet from an extremely busy street... during rush hour. I quickly ran over and scooped them up. I called my mother over and she went inside to see who they belonged to while I held them. She and the owner of a nail salon came out, and the lady explained that they were hers, but we could "do what you want with them". Without speaking a word my mother and I decided that we would take them with us, spay/neuter them, and find them a good home. So we told the lady that we would take them. She said "whatever". And we left. On the way home I looked into their precious eyes and my heart felt like it would melt. We had just rescued these poor little angels from a very hard life. I originally named the "Phil and Lil" because I didn't want to get too attached. I took them to the vet the next day and she said that they were malnourished and about 10 weeks old. I put up fliers at the vet and shelter. Three days later I received a phone call. It was a woman asking about the puppies. She said "Yes, I am calling about the puppies that are up for adoption". When I heard this a got a lump in my throat! I said, I think they have already found a home". Later that day my mom told me that she got a similar call but couldn't give them up so she told them they had the wrong number. I called the vet and shelter 10 minutes later and told them to please take down the fliers. I renamed them Copper and Bailey and the rest is history.

Rescue pups touch your heart in a way that no one else can. Knowing that without you they would most likely have suffered a terrible end, creates a bond that you cannot undo.

Dear Santa Paws

Dear Santa Paws,

This is our first Christmas and we think better start out with a few explanations. We know we probably haven't been the best behaved pups, but Santa Paws, we swear it hasn't all been our fault. We're sure you remember the time when Mommy took us to Petsmart and we spent the whole time barking at everybody in the store. You see, that wasn't really our fault, we were little pups and we just wanted to tell everyone that we had arrived. And of course you remember our "nippy" stage. Again, we're really sorry, but Mommy made such funny noises when we bited her that we thought she was having as much fun as we were. We are also sorry that we pick on our big brofurs and sisfurs. It's just that they are so much fun! They have big ears to tug on and long tails to hang onto.

Santa Paws, we know we have been bad... but mommy really did need some cheering up at times if that counts fur anything, and we did manage to do that for her. Pawlease don't leave us coal in our stockings. We really do need some new toys and treats if it is not too much trubble. And we pawmise, Mr. Santa Paws we will be good little pups and will be good from now until December 25.

Sending warm puppy kisses,

Copper and Bailey

PS: If you go into the backyard, please be careful of the holes. We have been dig... we mean doing a little project and wouldn't want you to trip.

Oh, and if you happen to hear a few barks when you come down the chimney... it was Hunter!

The answer to this question is: we're not really sure! Mommies not even sure who our doggy mommy is. Mommy says that she thinks we are pug/dachshund mix, but we are going to get a DNA test done this week. So be on the look out for the Results in the coming month!

Hello dogster pals! Me and my sister Bailey are all settled in now, and we think we are starting to be the bosses! We use our size to our advantage! Da hounds can't get away wif anything wif us around. We like to wrestle wif dem and pull on der ears, but if dey nip us back we yelp! And da hounds get in trubble... da humans still haven't caught on. We are really good at getting our way, if we don't want to do something we growl and da humans let us have our way. Mommy said something about "we're gonna have to work on that" and for da past few weeks when we growl mommy doesn't even talk to us, she just puts us in da crate. Da nerve!

Hi! This is Bailey... today I decided to do the journal entry by myself.

This morning I was playing outside with my big sisfur Gracie.... she is so pawesome. I was playing on the deck by the pool... when all of a sudden I was IN THE POOL!!! Mommy's Mommy screamed and Mommy came running towards the pool... and jumped in in her jammies!! I was in the deep end trying to get out! I can swim... but I am too small to get out of the pool by myself! So mommy swam as fast as she could, and scooped me up!! It was so scary!! Mommy says that me and Copper are going to have to get life jackets because we are so small and you cannot hear us splash when we fall in.

After mommy got into some dry clothes... she wrapped me up in a warm towel and rocked me to sleep. I don't like to be cold and wet.

We've been home for over a week now, and we are doing great!! We have both gained over a pound. Bailey weighs 5 1/2 lbs and Copper weighs 4 lbs 8 oz . We were malnourished and the good food that we're getting is helping us to catch up! This place is so cool!! We've got 4 big brothers and sister who are finally playing with us... a big yard to play in, and so much more. We are so glad that this gets to be our furever home!!

It has been a very busy day!! We found out that we were home all along!! Mommy is a wuss and bought our cuteness!! Little does she know that the fun has just begun. We are now known as Copper and Bailey! Mommy said that that suited out personallities better. We like our new names, and we like our new home even better!! This place is AWESOME! We have 4 big brothers and sisters... they are pawfectly pawesome. They have big long ears and big long tails that we just love to play with. Hunter is a big puppy! He likes to run and play just like us... we just have to be careful not too get squished. We have tons of toys, tons of beds, and tons of food! We don't even remember the bad stuff we came from now. Mommy still isn't quite sure what we are. She thought at first boxer mix... but since we only weigh 3 and 4 lbs at 10 weeks old, she is rethinking that!! Well we gotta go... lots of stuff to do, and learn!

We just got back from the vet. And she said that we were probably about 8 weeks old and tiny because we are a bit malnourished (thats the bad news). She sent us home with some yucky vitamins. Lil was 4 lbs 2 oz and Phil was 3 lbs 1 oz. She said she thought we were probably Boxer mixed with possibly Bull Terrier but she can't tell right now. One of the receptionists fell in love and said that if her BF agreed she wanted one of us!! That would be a great home!! So keep your paws crossed!!
