Well its been a week since Anna left with her Mom and I miss them! I was really getting used to the afternoon walks and extra attention. It's weird having new people next door. They seem nice enough - they didn't even get mad when I ran through their house looking for Anna - but its just not the same :-(
But things are improving in the house, and that's helping me feel a lot better. The new carpet was installed late last week, and that's made a big difference. Even on the main level, we have large extra pieces from the carpet, so its not so silly looking. Now the basement is almost restored, except for the furniture. Mom and I had carpet picnics down there last weekend and it was almost, almost normal again.
Of course, just as some sort of normal was restored, some men took the tv away - Mom says they are fixing it - so we're back to watching the little tv in the kitchen for another two weeks. And the bedroom furniture still isn't back yet - looks like it will be another week, so we're still sleeping on the mattress on the floor. Mom's clothes are everywhere because it got colder and she has no place to put anything. Today she realized she probably won't get the kitchen done before Christmas. I've been trying to tell her its already October . . .
So that's the news for today. We're off for a walk - the weather has turned cold at night, so silly Mom has to get all bundled up - it takes her forever to get outside when its cold!

I hung one more year on the line
I should be depressed
My life's a mess
But I'm having a good time
(with apologies to Paul Simon)
So Hanna sort of spoiled the outdoor birthday fun, and I couldn't have my traditional doggie cake since I was sooo sick last week, but we had a good time anyway. Mom made my favorite cookies and made them in squirrel shapes. She also bought me a new bed to sleep on since the floors are still being repaired from the flood this summer, and new plush toys since the flood claimed all of the old ones. Anna came over and everyone sang Happy Birthday while Anna did her two-year old interpretive dance of the song. I even got to see Karen, who is one of my favorite not-my-Mom people, and she snuck me some treats when Mom wasn't looking.
Today was much nicer out so we had brunch in Shirlington with our friend Allison, then Mom took me to a new store where we donated all of my rubber squeaky toys. I don't know why, but I have never liked the rubber toys - only the plush toys. I have tons of them, mostly gifts from Mom's friends, but I never ever play with them. The store owner said they are working with a rescue group that will give the toys to the poor dogs rescued from the puppy mills.
While we were in the store, we picked up the birthdy present we ordered for Anna - a toy Border Collie that looks just like me to take to Texas with her! Oh, and I got a special day-after-my-birthday treat for the car ride home.
It's game day, so I'm sporting my Cowboys bandana, which doesn't go over very well around here - but I've got to represent my Boys while we're stuck out here in Redskins country. Go Cowboys!
I could go on and on, but there's so much to catch everyone up on. . . it will have to wait another day.

Saturday's my 10th birthday and I saw Mom trying to sneak a big bag in the house yesterday (I could smell the goodies!) It's been such a rough year for me and Mom - I hope we have a big party, but I'd be happy if Mom didn't have to work or go anywhere. I think she has big plans for us . . .
