Arrival Story:
Blue came from a litter advertised in the Little Nickel. We drove to Skagit County to get him on July 5th, 2003. We decided his birthday was April 15 (tax day). The family who owned him had a bunch of rescued dogs, including his mom, an ugly but sweet pit bull/Brittany spaniel mix. Blue's daddy was the neighbor's dog, a lab/bullmastiff, making Blue a 4-way mutt. Blue's litter got a ton of petting, attention, and socialization from the family's three kids. We picked Blue because he was the most gentle and submissive puppy. He was also the biggest and the only black one--the others were solid fawn.

Blue is the sweetest, best dog ever. We named him after the folk song "Old Blue": "Had a dog, his name was Blue, and I'll bet you five dollars, he's a good dog too." Like all great mutts, Blue is a collection of the best traits from each of his ancestors. When we take him for a walk he will always find a "prize" stick, beer can, or empty water bottle, which he will proudly carry for several blocks. If it is a really good stick, he brings it home. He has a deep bark, ARBLY ARBLY ARBLY! He loves running through long grass and rolling in the short plush grass of a well-kept lawn. He likes to be near us and he always makes sure he keeps us in sight. He is not very bright, but he listens extremely well.
