Birthday: January 1st 2007 Likes: Chasing & barking at all the squirrels she has never seen at her previous homes Pet-Peeves: Can't play with neighbor kids & run free like their dog can. Favorite Toy: She had no interest in toys till I found a lifelike stuffed squirrel. Favorite Food: People food is she can get into it. Meat flavored anything. Fresh fruit. Favorite Walk: Backyard around the fence where all the wild animals tunnel under. Best Tricks: Jumping on anything & everything if she can see a squirrel. Arrival Story: Just after Sophie turned 2 , we became her 4th home. She was given as a puppy to a 73 yr old housebound woman, then a woman with 2 cats and rescued to a family w/ a 5 yr male JRT & 4 yr old girl. Sophie was a wild child who was not trained for any good behavior. But she loves people. I call her my wild child to newcomers to my house. We are past owners to a male JRT I raised as a puppy for my son (who broke my heart by taking him to Florida after his marriage). I really wanted another JRT as I love the quirky behavior & antics. I researched so I would not be comparing dogs & to find that I could love again. One look at Sophie was all it took to fall in love again. Sophie showed little Jack traits until we had her spayed after owning her for 5 months. Now I have a JRT big time. Wow! what a change. I can deal with a lot of it and enjoy. What is the hardest is her shooting out the door & running off to find the other neighbor dogs. We live in a small city but a busy street & she has run into it more than once. She has such powerful legs she leaps 4' fences , is out the door, off porch, no stairs and 3 ' from the bottom stair. It's like catching a speeding bullet.
We have a large open football field yard of 3 neighbors. She gets to run out back after I halter her w/2 as (she has chewed off 2 leashes) and snapped open a metal buckle & twisted out of the harness at the vets! The Groups I'm In: jack russles, The FURminator® Group For Dogs JRT: Sophie at 11 lbs. is much stronger & determined then any other JRT I've met. I'm really challenged to train her as she is so much different than any other dog we've had. She has learned so much but then so little in the long run. I can deal with all but the terror of her being hit & killed. Does any one have imput on keeping her in the house? We have babygates everywhere but she just jumps right over them all!!
