Arrival Story:
I found Kate while browsing the internet pet adoptions in January. my special dog, an older Blue Heeler named Dakota, was getting older and I wanted to find a young dog before he passed away, so he could be a positive role model. I had orginaly wanted to adopt Kate's brother, Puffball, from Noah's Ark Animal Shelter in Gainesville..however, he had already been adopted by the time I got there. Kate and her 2 remaining brothers were at an adoption day that day. I drove home(2 hours) and called back later to see if they had been adopted or not. Kate and her Brothers had not..I made arrangements to go up on Monday and decide which one I'd like to adopt. My boss gave me a weird look when I asked for half a day off to drive out to gainesville to adopt a dog, but he gave it to me. :) It broke my heart to see so many dogs in the shelter..Kate and her 2 brothers were in the kennel as I approached..her 2 brothers started jumping up and down and getting very excited. I was set on a male dog, but Kate really caught me. she hung back from her brothers and would bark every now and then and seemed excited, but wasnt bouncy like her brothers. this caught my eye espc. I wish I could have adopted all three of them, but at the risk of having a divorce on my hands, I chose Kate. She rode home in the crate in the back of my car and about 15 minutes from home, got carsick. :( Kate is extremly smart and very easy going. She enjoys coming with me to soccer games, to get feed, to feed my horses and cows, to do pretty much anything. She is very calm submissive, and hasnt met another dog or person she doesnt like. Dakota passed away almost 3 weeks ago. I am proud to say he was a good role model for Kate and she has been there for me throughout this very difficult greiving period. Kate is an extremly special dog. I really feel she is very grateful for me giving her a chance. I cant thank the Shelter enough for allowing me to adopt her and to my husband, who, against his better judgement allowed me to adopt her..and who did not get mad when I told him she'd chewed on his $60 running shoes. :)
