Arrival Story:
Chewy was desperately looking for food near a dumpster at a little country store in a county with NO ANIMAL SHELTER. That store was known as the dumping spot. He was so weak and pitiful but finally agreed to let me pick him up to eat the wet food in my backseat. Lucky for him I always have dog food & water in my car. Seems like a hundred years ago now. All the bald spot have grown hair, his mane would make a lion insecure, his gorgeous coat and tail have fluffed up wonderfully. No more ribs showing, he's a big eater even though his front teeth were ground down from eating things like rocks with whatever food he could find before. Whoever left this boy sure missed out. He's the only rescue I ever kept for myself and if you could see the awesome dogs I've had you'd know Chewy is special. He's the reason I keep pushing because dogs like him can fool you. With a chance and some work, they blossom into gorgeous sweethearts you couldn't live without.

After trying meds again, Chewy didn't completely get over his illness. He collapsed today and I decided to have him peacefully put to rest. He went very quickly and quietly. I told him that PaPaw would be waiting for him at Rainbow Bridge. He was such an amazing dog and we were all very grateful to have found him.

We're done with our anitbiotic and still on lasix. We get to take Bayer everyday now. He's much better as far as the heavy breathing, but still not as energetic as before. We still like to play a little and lay out on the grass but we nap a bunch these days. All the foster dogs are great entertainment and sometimes he likes to go out to visit them. Keep Chewy in your thoughts and prayers, I wish he could live as long as me :)

For the second time in nearly 2 years Chew Man has gotten fluid on his heart. He's in congestive heart failure and gets pneumonia easily. THe first time meds got him back to good shape. Vet says he between 11-13 yrs old. He's getting more tired and napping more often. Keeping my fingers crossed that he gets better again and can hang on. Daddy has just gone to The Bridge to wait for Chew and hope he's waiting a while. But his PawPaw misses him so I know he'll be taken care of when it comes.
