Arrival Story:
On a day close to my birthday we drove to the Haven to look at dogs because the dog I was wanting to get for my birthday had been adopted the day before we went there. We were expecting to just look. The first dog we walked named Spring was a beagle mix and was to hyper. She kept scratching. Sampson was the next dog we walked- or rather stood by. He didn't walk he just sat there. He was scared but oh so loving. He looked up and we knew he was the one. We walked out of that building owning a dog, but we didn't get him until a couple days later when he was neutered.

Bio:
We found Sampson at the Haven and just couldn't resist him. He looked up at you with deep brown eyes full of love and everyone fell in love with him, too. He was a little fatter than he is now but he was shorter. He was very very shy then but he's pretty open now. He's a bouncy puppy full of energy and always ready to play. He's only met one person he didn't love and the kid was waving his scooter at Sam so I don't blame him. He's never bit out of meanness though he playbites often and we are trying to stop that. Overall he is the best dog I've ever had even though he's only my second! I highly recommend this mixed breed.

I RESCUED A HUMAN TODAY

Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels.

I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her.

I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn't be afraid.

As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage.

I didn't want her to know that I hadn't been walked today.

Sometimes the shelter keepers get too busy and I didn't want her to think poorly of them.

As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn't feel sad about my past.

I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone's life.

She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me.

I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her.

Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship.

A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well.

Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms.

I would promise to keep her safe. I would promise to always be by her side.

I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes.

I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor.

So many more are out there who haven't walked the corridors.

So many more to be saved.

At least I could save one.

I rescued a human today.

Justice for Karley--- True story

Hello everyone...here is my story.

I had been abandoned when Jeff & Shelley Toole found me & gave me a loving home.

I loved my home & my new family. I had everything I could have ever wanted. I even got to go to the river...it was so much fun.
On Nov 3rd. 2008, I got out from my yard. It has been said that the neighbor let me out. Anyway, I escaped & ran to a neighbors house. As this first neighbor was taking me home, a second neighbor came out & said he would return me to my home. Travis, the first neighbor, had a gut feeling that he shouldn't let Johnson, the second neighbor take me but he released me to him anyway. Just as Travis got back to his driveway, he heard me yelp. He turned to see Johnson hitting me with a rock...a 12lb rock. Travis started running back to save me. Just as Travis got to me, Johnson was still hitting me with the rock & trying to pry my mouth open with his hands. The whole time I was wondering.."what did I do to this man?" "Did I potty on his lawn?" "When will he stop beating me?" Well, he didn't stop. He kept hitting me with that rock. Travis was able to distract him for a few seconds so I could stumble away & collapse in the bushes. When I was taken to the ER, I had swelling on my brain, broken jaw, crushed skull & many other injuries. The injuries were so traumatic that the only option my humans had was to release me to the rainbow bridge. The vet said I could be saved but I wouldn't recover from all of the injuries so with a very broken heart, my humans let me go.
The person that did this to me, was an Los Angeles County Asst. Fire Chief. People like that aren't suppose to do things like what he did to me. They are suppose to SAVE people & animals...NOT take their lives. But he took mine & broke the hearts of my humans.
This man who took my life, retired from the FD with his FULL pension. BUT, he has been ordered to stand trial for what he did. My humans had so many people support them & help them. There were times when they didn't think they could go on & fight this person but a friend of my mommie's (who is the person writing my story) made sure she was always there for my humans. When they wanted to give up, she told them NO. She made sure my story reached all over the world. My story is on several doggie sites. She wrote 2 petitions for me.
We go back to Court on July 23rd. On this day, we are hoping to hear that a trial date has been set. Meanwhile, my humans moved away from that awful man. If you would like to read more about my story, please visit...justice4karley.com

Ahh! November! The air is crisp and cool, the squirrels are out, and me and Frisbee are working full time at chasing them. Dog park days come more often, too. But stupid turkey day.... I have to get borded! Mom, grandmom, granddad, and J. Mac are going to their grandma's house. I have to stay at a new vet, too. Me and Frisbee have to stay
TOGETHER!!! Oh nooooo.... In a run of course. They are all like oh this vet is better! But it's not. So what it has personal yards that are always open and yummy bakery cookies and playtime with people who brush you and walk you and even suites with toddler beds.... Okay so it's awesome there.... It's still not my vet, not my mommy, and FRISBEE is there....... Stinky, stinky, stinky.....
