Favorite Toy:
Any stuffed animal that he can destroy and a very worn orange toy that looks like a skinny cat

Favorite Food:
peanut butter!!! apples, cottage cheese, anything he is not supposed to have or that is on my plate :)

Favorite Walk:
Running around my yard (he only wants to do it 2 times, then pushes me back inside :)

Best Tricks:
Give Me Five! He will pat you and pat you with his paw until he gets a treat.

Arrival Story:
I found him at Adopt-A-Pet, a division of the Humane Society. I really didn't want a puppy, I wanted a calm, older dog. But we fell in love at first sight. He was 7 weeks old. He was named George then but I changed it to Jake. I had had that name on my answering machine along with mine as a safety measure (single woman living alone) and when I met Jake, it seemed like destiny that I had finally met the dog behind the name :)

Bio:
Adopt-A-Pet said he's a terrier mix (I see Airedale and Giant Schnauzer), but from his appearance and temperament, I see alot of Irish Wolfhound. He can open doors and has a special bark that means he wants Patti, his owner! He kept growing and growing - now he's 87 pounds and he's done at 5 yrs old. (I hope - he's been on a diet for 3 years!!!) Stubborn, independent, lively, rambunctious and loving are words that describe him.

Jake:
Jake and Maisy are finally family and they admit it at last. Jake graciously gave up the bed for her but he will not give up my lap for her unless she sneaks up there first. He likes to crowd us all by jumping up on my lap with her, which works for about 5 minutes! Then she either jumps off or makes him jump off. He's a lover, not a fighter!!!!

Hi, this is Patti posting about Jake. He's fine but bless his heart, he has arthritis in his left front paw and back legs, so he has a hard time writing :) I just wanted to write about him because he has made such a difference in my life. He knows when I am upset and comes to sit on my lap and lick me, or just sit right by me. Actually, he always comes to hang out with me in whatever room I am in, no matter what. He's the greatest. I don't know where I'd be or if I'd be without him.

I have a third dog, Joey, who you'll see a page for shortly. Joey came to us at 5 1/2 weeks and is now a year and a half old. Jake and Joey play really well and Joey followed Jake around like a pesky younger brother for a long time. Jake does get possessive of his toys and me though and is a very dominant dog. Joey takes it very well and it's so funny - he will roll on his back sometimes if Jake just gives him a look. I know that look and I give it to Jake :)

Maisy and Me

Patti is so happy that Maisy and I get along now! We play alot. Patti wasn't sure how it would work out between us and for a few weeks she thought Maisy may have to find another home. She said that kicker for her that Maisy had to stay with us is when I cried all night when Maisy was at the kennel one time (I had to go to Dad's the next morning!). I missed her very much - she may have her moments when she doesn't want me to get too close to Patti but for the most part, we are so happy to be housemates.

We play sometimes - Patti swears that we have some deep need to both be on the couch with her when she sits down and start roughhousing in our play on top of her. Maisy has this play grunt that cracks Patti up - she asks us if we want to be alone. Well, no! Of course not - we wouldn't come sit with her if we wanted to be alone - I always want to be with Patti!

I did a noble thing, all on my own and Patti said that I am such a sweet, generous boy. I gave up sleeping on Patti's bed for Maisy. Patti brought Maisy in to sleep on the bed with us when she realized that we were ok together. But the bed is only so big! Maisy may be small but she does NOT like to cuddle or be touched while she is sleeping on the bed. I kept scooting and finally just jumped off one night and haven't stayed up there since. Patti made a big bed of an old comfort, lots of blankets and towels for me next to the bed, so I am still with them.

We are all really a pack now - Patti says family but I say pack. She's the pack leader - She has been walking me and loves to watch some guy called the Dog Whisperer on TV. She says I am so good now - wasn't I always? Of course, she says - always the best but now even the best behaved!!!

Maisy came to live with us a couple of weeks ago. She is a little princess already, even if she says she is only in training. I am not sure about her in my yard yet, but in the house is ok. Patti is waiting until I don't go behind her and mark over wherever she does her business. Then she'll know that I am totally accepting of Maisy. Patti put up my toys though! A little scuffle between Maisy and I happened when Maisy got one of MY toys. However I took her toy - what' s in the house is mine, thank you very much.

Patti picks her up alot, and I wish Patti could pick me up too. I love it when she hugs me or kisses me. She says that I'm a big dog who thinks that I am a little dog and Maisy is a little dog who knows that she is little and I am not.

Maisy snaps at me alot but doens't seem to mind sharing my food when I drop it. So in her mind, I must be good for something.

Maisy sleeps in the office at night and I still sleep in Patti's room on her bed with her. Patti said that Maisy is too small and if she fell of the bed (it's really high) she might get hurt, plus she doesn't want to mess with my security too much. She knows that she could put us both off the bed but she sleeps better with me leaning against her legs. Patti and I are a team; love me, love my Patti.

Anyway, Maisy changed our home. I think I might like her if she would let me. I wanted a new friend, maybe a sister and what I got was a house acquaintance so far. Time will tell.....
