   Leave a bone for Sassy

Nicknames:
Princess, Little Girl

Birthday:
April 15th 2004

Arrival Story:
Sassy was rescued from a backyard breeder in March 2009, we picked her up in Davis from Bay Area Poodle Rescue May 2009.

Bio:
Sassy is a classic Standard Poodle. She is approximately 6 years old and weighs approximately 65 lbs. Sassy has long legs and a stately poodle gait. She is a light apricot color. She will be absolutely gorgeous when her hair has fully grown back in. [Her hair had to be shaved off down to the skin because her former owner only groomed her once per year.] Sassy is up to date on all her shots. She is heartworm negative and is on heartworm preventative. Sassy has been spayed. She recently had surgery to remove benign mammary tumors. [We believe Sassy was used to breed multiple litters of puppies] Sassy is housetrained. She sits and downs on command. She is very food oriented and very bright . She is anxious to please. So training Sassy to do other things should be fun and very rewarding. Sassy is very affectionate and very sweet. She will be an intensely loyal, and absolutely devoted companion. Sassy is the perfect urban dog. You could take her anywhere. She likes people. She is calm and civilized when out and about around town. And, she is content to just sit and watch the world go by from a table outside your favorite coffee house. She rides quietly and contentedly in a vehicle. Sassy is also a country girl. In natural areas, Sassy’s classic poodle genes kick in. She is very interested in squirrels, rabbits and other small creatures – especially the ones that make noises. [She seems to be very sound focused.] And she will pull on the leash even with a gentle leader. She is a strong dog. To make sure that Sassy never gets lost while chasing one of these small creatures, when Sassy is in a natural area – or anywhere other than a secured fenced area – like all rescue dogs, she needs to be on a leash at all times. Sassy’s life started out well and took a wrong turn somewhere. In Sassy’s old home … She spent the last approximately 4 years confined in a backyard with a bunch of other dogs, deprived of the human contact that all poodles need. She was groomed once a year. [Instead of once every 4-6 weeks.] She was bred multiple times. But …. Through it all … Sassy retained all her classic Standard Poodle qualities. And now ,,, Sassy is ready to move on to the rest of the life she deserves. And to catch up on time lost. In Sassy’s New Home … She will be an indoor dog, included in all the family’s activities. She will get to ride in the car on errands and trips. She will be exercised regularly. She will get to lie out in the sun on lazy afternoons in the backyard - with you, of course. On quiet days, she might take a nap in the recliner with her favorite toy by her side. On weekends, she will take trips with the family to the bookstore, the farmers’ market, the beach, the mountains, the lake or the snow. But most of all … In Sassy’s new home … She will be the apple of someone’s eye … Someone’s Princess.
