Arrival Story:
When I bought my house the one thing missing was a dog to share it with, so every weekend meant going to the local Humane Society for that special someone. I had every intention of getting an adult dog, but my brother talked me into looking at the puppies. All of them were cute but none had that undeniable connection. That is until the last kennel, there in the back of this large pen sat this little black and tan baby with sad eyes, and I just new. She had a rough start in life. The product of next door neighbor "breeders" ( the term breeders is in quotes, because there are plenty of responsible, loving ones out there but not these two) one breeding Rottweilers and the other German Shepherds. Well apparently a Rottweiler got into the yard with a shepherd female in heat and Allie was one of the results. The "breeders" gave away the puppies who looked mixed at 4-6 weeks old(like I said I use the term breeder in quotes). Allie was one given away at 4 weeks old to a family getting an Easter present for their 3 year old. After a month in their home she was taken for the following reasons listed on her surrender information. Per her owners it did not matter how many times they hit her, she wouldn't stop crying, whining and pooping in her cage. They couldn't understand why she pooped in her cage she was only in there 8 to 12 hours at a time. Needless to say I was horrified, but determined that the rest of her life would be different. You know what's funny. She was housebroken in a weekend, has always been eager to please and is she smart it's amazing. She also never chewed or tore up the house and has been my faithful companion for 11 years now. I am not sure what I would say to either the breeders or the monsters that had her the first 8 weeks of her life, and it's probably best we never meet. I can only feel blessed to have her part of my life and for all the love she gives me.

Allie Taught herself how to open entry way doors, you can tell her how many cookies to take out of her container and that is exactly what she will take. If you are watching a sad movie or are tired she'll go to her toybox, pick out a toy, lay it on your lap then go lay down in her bed. In Allie's mind toys make everything better. Her best trick is she alerts me when my blood sugar is low. She was never formally trained but can smell the difference and lets me know. When we are hiking or walking she gives me a good sniff every so often and will stop, not moving until I test. She's always right. She's gotten me up from a dead sleep when my blood sugar started tanking, I was at 45mg. She's saved me twice. Even without all of that the love she gives me brings me up on a bad day and makes me smile each morning. Who could ask for more.

Today my mommy let me go

Several months ago, the Vet diagnosed me with canine Alzheimer's. So I was a little forgetful and made some messes there were more good days than bad. Funny enough my little sister Sophia started watching out for me our roles were now reversed.
A few days ago though my back legs just didn't want to work all the time and yesterday they stopped working at all. Mommy had to make the hardest decision ever to let me go.

We went to the vet this morning and I went to sleep with my family there to hold me while I went. Although heart broken they know it was the right thing to do for me.

To all of my puppy pals who have sent me such nice comments and presents don't be sad. I had a wonderful long life filled with love and family.

October 3,2010

So with Mommy in school full time, she graduates in December. We don't get to update our stuff much.

Let's Mom went to California 09/04/10-09/11/10 and Grammy stayed at our house with us and since Grammy works later than Mommy our dog walker Liz came every day. We love our Grammy "she lets us get away with more than Mommy does", but don't tell okay.

Mommy did make us doggie sweet potato muffins before she left though, we love those. Sophia and I watch the oven for Mommy just in case and she lets us split one as soon as their cool.

She made some more today. We just put a picture on our site too, if we could share via the web we would.

My sister has learned a new trick and let me tell you I am not to fond of it. Look I like to check out the yard before dinner, but no not her she wants the FOOD. So mom looks at her and says sorry Sophia you can't come in until your sister does. So now she darts out in the and circles around using the her tie out to corral me to the door. Can you believe that what nerve. She's real proud of herself too. Oh well mommy thinks it's cute and although annoying I am proud of her.

So not a long entry today. Hope all my puppy pals are having a great fall until next time

Birthday Week

Well we have had some ups and downs this week. Last Saturday evening mom found a mass on my left side behind my shoulder. She got very upset and sad the rest of the weekend. Sophie and I hugged her all weekend to try an make her better but nothing worked. Monday she called my Vet and Tuesday (mom's birthday) after he aspirated the area we found out it was a fatty tumor so no cancer. Mom was really happy, she said I gave her the best present ever but I'm not sure what it was.

The rest of the week was better. We went to a new bakery Nutty Mutt and picked up our birthday cakes. See today is my little sister Sophie's fourth birthday and tomorrow is my twelveth birthday. Grammy is going to come over and mommy is going to let us have some of our cakes.

Well we are going to the store now mommy says she is going to post our cake pictures.

Later Allie
