He loves to learn and be rewarded with praise!
Augustus does not like to be scolded or disciplined!
After only 3 days, he has really taken a liking to his tug of war rope.
He will eat anything! Im assuming Petsmart barely fed him because he has been acting like he's starving to death!
He likes to walk all around the townhome community, especially the wooded, secluded areas, but he also enjoys the lake.
He is learning basic commands, such as sit, paw, lay down.
This is the story of how I came to be with my new parents, Austin and Rebekah. They began making trips into Petland to purchase feeder mice for their pet baby Guyana boa. They spotted me for the first time and immediately felt sorry for me. I was crammed in a too small cage for my growing body. Despite being adorable and happening to be a breed they both adored, they walked away after a few minutes of heart wrenching conversation pertaining to my horrible situation. They made several more trips into the store over the next month and a half, where I remained in the same small, filthy cage, but came to my window to check on me and talk to me each time. After about the 5th trip in to Petland for a mouse, they decided to give in and play with me! They really felt bad for me, as I was covered in pee and had poop stuck all in my fur. They could tell I had some behavior issues from being confined to a cage for 3 months. They knew I would be a lot of work, and despised the idea of supporting that dirty, ill-reputed chain store that held me hostage, but the hurting pain in my eyes haunted them, and they knew I deserved so much better. After tossing and turning all night, they woke up the next day and made their way to the store. The price they were told on the phone was automatically jacked up $100 when they got there, since the staff knew they would bring me home anyway. They did, and although I came from a horrible, over-run puppy mill and ended up in a disgusting, low quality pet store, I have found a clean home with a loving family and all the treats and toys I could ever want. I am suffering from bad manners (I was never taught any) and housebreaking issues (after being stuck in a cage since 5 wks old, it becomes normal to pee and poop all over yourself and anywhere you feel the need to go), however I am highly intelligent and quick to learn. After just 3 days with my new parents, I can sit on command, shake, and Im starting to learn to 'lay down'. I am learning to distinguish the difference of going potty inside and outside. I am so happy to be away from that Petland prison, and hope and pray that all my old friends there find good homes like I did! I also hope and pray that Petland goes away forever and never comes back! That place was the worst experience of my life and almost ruined my happiness forever!
Augustus (or 'Gus' for short) is a white AKC Siberian husky. He gets his name from the month of August in which he was born! In fact, he shares his August 25th birthday with his new pet parent, Rebekah! She didn't find out until the purchase at the pet store was already completed! How coincidental! The 'Gus' nickname stems from the character 'Gus' from the 1994 Disney movie Iron Will. Gus is the intelligent lead sled dog in the movie that Augustus bears a striking resemblance to! Also, when deciding on the name Augustus, Rebekah and Austin found out that 'Augustus' is a variant form of the name 'Austin', so in a sense, Austin and Augustus have the same name!
