Arrival Story:
I decided to rescue a Beagle or Bassett Hound. I chose a shelter in Huntley, Il. I went to Animal House Shelter to check them out. Before I knew it, I completed the paperwork and was meeting with a handler. I told her that I was looking for a quiet Beagle or Bassett Hound. Avery was the second dog that I saw. They brought her into the interview room and she handed me her leash. Avery looked at me and walked to the back door of the room. She then proceeded to open it with her paw. She made up her mind before I made up mine. I pulled her back and she walked around the room. She stopped in front of me and sat down. She pulled her ears forward and looked at me with her brown eyes. At that point, I could not say no. I finished up the adoption process.

Avery is a Beagle-Mix... A double sized beagle- 65 lbs and 20 inches tall... I don't what the "mix" is. The vet thinks she is some type of hound. I think that she is mixed with a foxhound or German Shepherd. I just had the Wisdom Panel Professional test done on her and it came back that she had an intermediate mix of Beagle and Wire Haired Dachshund. The results don' t make sense for her size. She was at Animal House Shelter for 2 years before I adopted her. There is no real information before she came to AHS. The vet and myself set her birthday as 1/1/2005. She is the perfect dog. A calm, quiet disposition, house trained and very loyal. Her only problem is that she has Separation Anxiety. This makes me think that she must have been abandoned in her past life.
