Ok, sumptin happened yesfurday and I wasn't even gonna bark about it cuz it was pretty much a non-incident. But today sumptin happened that I gotta diary woof about!
Yesfurday, Ma and I went out with the intention of playin' fetch in our favfurite place. Wellwoof, there was a coupla big buck deer dudes layin' in the bushes. When they saw us comin' they both got up and ran off. Ma told them to watch out fur cars and I pretty much ignored them cause I was all set to play fetch. No big deal, Ma didn't even hafta tell me to leave it. I am not gonna mess with these strappin' young bucks! They are pretty big!
Today, we was playin' fetch in the same place mindin' our own business when all of a sudden a fawn comes outta the woods and approaches me like another dog or sumptin! Don't know if this fawn was near-sighted or suicidal or stupid! But, if you approach me like you wanna play I gotta check you out! This fawn soon learned it screwed up very seriously! I turned and gave chase, I couldn't help myself! But Ma was yellin', "LEAVE IT" like a crazy person and I didn't go very far. Ma wasn't even mad at me 'cause it really was the fawn's fault.
But get this, the fawn goes and tells its mom on us and she comes back and watches us, givin' us the stink eye all the time! What's up with that! Her fawn started it!

Wow! Very cool Pepper!
Leave the bucks alone but that fawn sure woulda been fun to chase!
Er, I mean play with.
Uh oh, you better watch out for Momma deer givin' you the stink eye... they can get really mean really quick!!
WHOA! Be careful out there! Them deers can mess a pup up big time!!
Hey Tux, yeah, I'm no dummy! That fawn was the dumb one!
Finley & Fizzy, you are right about those momma deer! I got chased by one a coupla years ago and I deserved it that time! But this time it was a set up!
You CAME BACK !!!!!!!
I worship at your paws !!!!!!!!
Momma deer will stomp their feet along with the stink eye...and then they will 'stomp on you (or try to) if you don't go away and leave them alone.
Too bad she didn't know to tell her fawn to stay away from dogs!
I woulda barked those deers good. Of course, that's my basic philosophy for life.
whoa!! that is something, you are lucky the Momma didn't chase after you...
You are a smart dog, listening to your momma like that. Niiiiiice!
Hi Flicka! Yes, I came back. I really wanted to play ball! I have a pretty low prey drive but when a prey animal practically throws itself at me, wellwoof, what's a pup to do?
MrJack and Petey, yeah, glad momma deer didn't come and raise a ruckus. She was nowhere to be seen when the fawn furst approached. She came back after the whole hullabaloo!
Thanks fur the barks, Whitley & Maxwell!
*lol* came back with it's mom - good one :o)
Oh my, you live in a really cool area, Pepper! What a great story.
Woofs and tail wags to you, Jojo and sonja
You did what you were supposed to do---it is your territory, and the deer need to know that!
You made friends with that fawn.
Pepper, we've shared similar experiences. When I was two years old, a fawn came out of the woods and play-bowed to me. I play-bowed back and the two of us danced around. Then it just pranced off into the woods.
I can't believe that your fawn and Mom came back to give you the stink eye. I never saw my fawn friend again.
What a cool experience you had.
Hey Jojo, DFB & Riley! This is a strange incident and hard to believe, I know, but it's true!
oh, Pepper, we totally believe it! No question. It's such an amazing encounter.. Lucky you. Happy woofs, Jojo and sonja *hugs*
