I has been huntin' fur gophers fur the last three weeks or so. Ma lets me do it figurin' those critters hears me comin' long befure I starts diggin'. My Rainbow sisfur spent her whole lifetime huntin' and diggin' and never got one in 12 years! And Ma says she was a much more intense digger/hunter than me!

Anywoof, we went fur a nice long walk this afternoon. We was cooped up in the house this mornin' cause o' the rain and hail. On the way back Ma and I saw a li'l critter stickin' his head outta his hole. I watched and waited and suddenly I pounced! Again, Ma figured he would quickly duck into his hole and be long gone. No sirree, not with this quick pouncin' girl! I pulled his li'l furry butt right outta there! But I let 'im go right away. Ma didn't even know I had 'im until I went after 'im again! Then she saw a li'l black body walkin' around in the grass! At furst she thought it was a mouse but then realized it's probably a mole! Seems I used a soft mouth on 'im cause he wasn't at all hurt, just dazed and surprised to be outta his hole. At this point Ma pulled me away and hoped the li'l guy would find his way back. I'm kinda glad! I wasn't sure what I was supposta do once I had 'im! I'm not a terrier after all!

Ok, little earthly sister, don't you think you got one over on me! I never got any of those earth dwelling critters but I did get a tree dwelling one, a squirrel, which is a lot more challenging! Mother came home and opened the door to let me in and I presented fresh squirrel for the family for dinner! She screamed and shut the door in my face! There's gratitude for you!

Seems like you had a nice little snack there that you let go.
Next time, just gulp it down.

Thanks pups! But I'm a retriever! Da says I'm bred to bring stuff back to my peoples unharmed. I am not trained fur that but it seems to be my inclination to not hurt the live bodies. Although I know how, cause I do like to shake my toys!

I think I heard growlmy referring to the catch/don't kill as 'soft-mouth'...which is exactly what retrievers are supposed to have. Good job...though I would have done a lot more, BOL! After all I am one of those terrierist pups. Moles can be rather easy to catch, they don't move that fast at all, at least not the ones I have encountered. Now gophers and squirrel and rabbits is a whole 'nother story!

Mom is always surprised when I use my "soft mouth" too. The fun is in the chase. Besides, why eat a germy old critter when there are hot dogs in the fridge?

If you manage to get a bird, make sure you kill the little varmint. The humans tend to let them go unharmed, and birds are evil!

WOW Pepper, daz amazin! I nefur catched anyfing. Mama say I's made fur being cyoot an en'ertainin.

Terriers are small "game" hunters. Retrievers-retrieve. Shepherds herd. Does anyone have any idea what SPITZES do? I know eskies were circus dogs and they are funny and entertaining but I don't believe those are instinctive dog traits.

Woofs! Thanks everypup, guess this is a infurestin' subject!

MrJack, think your right about moles bein' easy to catch! Think we have more gophers around here but guess I got lucky with an easy mole instead! What a dummy! Stickin' his head out like that in broad daylight!

Sorry, Mr Demon, I let a li'l baby bird go once when I was a puppy. I'll try to do better next time!

I agree with you, Lucky, it's just fun to catch. I don't really wanna eat 'im!

I liked to catch possums an trot around with em in my mouth and then mama would yell at me to DROP! They just lay there then. Mama went to go scoop it up with the shovel one cuz she thought I killed it, but then it started slowly moving it's head to see what was pushin at its back so Mama went in the house and then a lil while later that possum got up and started runnin toward right towards into the garage. Mama screamed! And hit the button to close the garage door. That were fun!

Keep after them critters. That's always a good time! Paws up to you for catchin the lil guy!
