Arrival Story:
When Vanya was put down, our dog Buster was despondent. Although we had let Buster see Vanners before we buried him, he missed his buddy terribly. So, we almost immediately started looking for a friend for Buster. We went to a local rescue group to look at a husky/shepherd mix and she was tiny, and buster weighs 120 pounds, so that wouldn't have been a good fit. Then we saw this beautiful blod boy up on a hill and he was trying to get our attention. We asked the rescue people if we could check him out and they said fine, but that some folks he didn't like. This was not the case with us. We liked him so much, we ran home, grabbed Buster and took him to the rescue to meet Ivan. They hit it off immediately and we decided this was the dog for Buster and for us!

Bio:
Ivan has had a pretty rough life, he's got a permanent rod in his leg from being hit by a car, he had heartworm and he spent 8 months at the rescue group. He's really relaxed since we adopted him in August 2004 and has really turned into a wonderful dog. Although he was 2 years old when we adopted him, he hadn't been housetrained. It took a little while, but he's wonderful with it now. Also, apparently at his first home the least and collar where used as a means of punishment, not for training. He's still skittish with males at first, but he's much more trusting than he used to be. He's also learned how to play with toys (had no clue how to do that but Buster showed him the joy of toys), chew on rawhides, and is starting to figure out that retrieving the toys is sort of fun too! We're very very lucky that he has joined our family. Even our cats like him!
