Dante is a on a raw diet and loves it!
Favorite Walk:
He only goes in the yard because he is still learning to wear his harness. A collar just freaked him out!
Best Tricks:
Well at 9 weeks, he thinks his best trick is being able to get his paws on the kitchen counter, but mom is not too thrilled with that!
Arrival Story:
Dante was one of a litter of 15 puppies. He was with a man who owned the father and grandfather and the man's sister in law owned the mother. The sister in law, who is a "breeder" (using the term very loosely) did not step up to the plate and care for these pups as she supposedly agree.
Dante has a right eye issue, which we know as entropion. I picked up him and 2 other litter mates at 6 weeks of age to get them veterinary care. They never returned. Besides the entropion, he was invested with hookworm and roundworm also. He was where he should have been in weight and height. After talking things over, we decided to call the authorities for animal cruelty (you will understand better if you read about his litter mates). The enforcement officer came out, check the vet records, the condition of dogs, etc and said for now, they may stay here. Well in PA, there is a law that puppies can not be away from their mother unless they are 8 weeks of age or they are cared for at a non profit organization. So we were facing fines and things from the dog warden, but the enforcement officer was trying to not to let that happen. The law is the law and we understood that, but didnt mean we had to like it. Ultimately it came down to where my vet had wrote a letter at the dog warden's insistance, that these pups could be away from their mother. My vet agreed that it was reasonable for them to be away due to their medical conditions. So Dante has been with us ever since. He is growing so much everyday and he is spoiled rotten, but what else would he be?
Everyone keeps telling us how lucky those pups are to have us, I rather think of it as how lucky we are have them!
Bio:
Right now, due to all the medical conditions of these pups, we are running a fundraiser and chipin account to help pay for these medical conditions. Dante is going to need the surgery for his entropion, but that is getting done when he is getting neutered. His sister, Mystic, is probably going to have to have her left, if not both eyes removed due to micro-ophthalmous. Zeus, the other little guy, is dealing with borderline micro-ophthalmous, corneal fibrosis and pigmentary keratitis. He goes back in a few weeks to see if his corneas cleared up any, if not, he is going to need an ultrasound ($292, plus $119 office visit) to see what is going on with eyes. The opthamologist is trying to save what sight he may still have, even if it is still shadows. Many prayers are need so these pups can heal and have the most normal life as possible.
