There's a new human in the house

As Max's mommy, he continually surprises me on just what a great dog he is. We brought home a baby (human) girl a few weeks ago and Max is so great with her. It's so cute, every time she makes a noise or someone moves her, Max has to come sniff her to make sure she is okay. Max is also very gentle around her, and again we are so lucky to have found such a wonderful companion.

Max trains his humans well.

So I noticed last weekend that Max has taught his 10 year old human brother ( best friend) to play fetch.
Max will sit on the couch or recliner with his feet and head at the very end. He'll be playing with one of his toys and then drop it. But when he drops it he looks at his human brother who will in turn pick up the toy and hand it back to Max. Max will play for a few more minutes and then he'll drop to toy to the floor again. And again when he drops the toy he looks at his human again, who again picks up the toy and hands it to Max.
Once I picked up on this, and pointed it out to everyone else, we all have got a good laugh out of it.
Also Max has his human mamma trained well also. I am pregnant so I sit in the recliner in the evenings with my feet up, and it doesn't matter where in the house Max is, as soon as he hears that recliner go up he runs and jumps in the recliner with me. He loves to cuddle, but once he's done with that he'll sit on the foot rest next to my feet.

3 months at new home

Well it's been 3 months since Max came to live with us. He came to us untrained, but still a very sweet dog. He has done really well about learning his commands, he "goes to bed" on command now, and understands the words no, down, sit and of coarse " wanna go outside".
He is a very loving schnauzer and fits in very well with us. He is just a happy healthy boy.
We are now working on the leash pulling, he may only be a 20lb schnauzer but he is a strong thing when that pray drive kicks in.

Name Change again???

Okay, I haven't updated his page lately but our Sebastian/Rufus is now known as Max.
After updating his name in April, I came home from work that day and my hubby informed me that Sebastian/Rufus actually responded to Max everytime he would say the name so now our boy's name is Max (and will not be changed again, it's been Max for over a month now)

We decided that we were going to change Sebastian's name. Now that he is home we tried out a few names, but the one that seemed to stick was Rufus, so the schnauzer formaly known as Sebastian will now be called Rufus.

We are so happy and excited that Sebastian is finally home. He came right in, checked things out and made himself at home. It is like he has been with us forever, no fear he came right up to me when I came home and greeted me as if he had missed me forever.
My daughter and him did not click right away, she is 2 and we have been telling her about our doggie and how he is nice and he's our doggie so no need to be affraid, but when she saw him she screamed and he turned and ran the other direction. This morning was better though, she sat on the kitchen counter where he couldn't reach her and watched me and my son interact with him so she could see what a sweet dog he is, I'll probably do this for a while so she can get used to having him around.

He slept all night in his crate; however he will not willingly go in on his own, but he doesn't put up a fight and he doesn't whine or bark once in there.
I have to say that he is such a good boy, and it is so nice to have a dog in our home again.

Today is the day. Sebastian is on the way home. He has met his daddy and they even went shopping at Petsmart before hitting the road home. His mommy and human brother and sister are so excited to meet him. He even met some doggie friends at petsmart and got lots of attention from other humans there to.
His foster mom said that he really doesn't know his name, so we are thinking about changing his name to something that is fitting to him.
We'll see tonight when he mets the rest of the family.

We have been looking for a schnauzer to add to our family since Tweeker passed away May 2008. We will only get a rescued schnauzer or one needing to be rehomed.
It has been almost a year and then I came across Sebastian on petfinder.com. He is in another state so we have yet to meet him, but my application was approved for his adoption and his status on petfinder has been changed to adopted. I am so excited and nervous at the same time.
They list his age to be just under a year, I have never had a puppy. When we adoted Tweeker 6 years prior he was an adult, and already set in his ways.
I am sure it will be a lot of work, but he'll be worth it.
