It's been a very long time since my last entry. In fact, it's been a very long time since I even logged on to the Dogster website....
BUT! Happy Mother's Day to all mothers out there, human and k9! I consider myself a mother, even though I've never given birth. I have "babies" that I take care of, plus I take care of Tristan and the cats, not to mention Mom and Dad.
At any rate, after writing diary journals for quite some time, I simply lost interest after reading some of the entries that some "popular" dogs were writing...don't ask me why, as that really shouldn't affect my writing, but I found it very discouraging.
I will make a feeble attempt to update my diary on a more regular basis these days. Perhaps I can once again write daily entries like I did long ago....

So there's Dad, perusing the newspaper after supper tonight when he comes upon an article that generates much discussion between Mom and Dad.
It seems the high school where the pups went has allowed a female wrestler on the "boys' wrestling team". Mom and Dad are all about equal rights and that sort of thing, but this particular situation has probably caused a lot of emotional damage to said girl's recent opponent. Apparently this 103 lb. senior girl managed to defeat her 103 freshman (I think it was) male opponent. Glorious for the girl, but how humiliating for that poor boy! Can you imagine what just happened to his self-esteem? How all of his buddies must be laughing at him and taunting him? Not too many freshman boys are anywhere near as mature (physically and mentally) as a senior girl. Somehow this whole situation seems wrong...
And all of this coming from ME, alpha bitch over a dog!! I don't really think Tristan is at all harmed mentally by the the fact that he's my underling...he doesn't care as long as I keep his ears cleaned out and his face washed (along with other body parts that humans tend to find a little...disgusting).
So, I hope that unfortunate boy is able to suck up his defeat and take it like a dog...or at least take it like Tristan, who is just oblivious and happy as a lark with his shortcomings.

Oh my goodness!!!!! For the first time this winter, we're actually getting a bunch of snow! Something more than 1/4 inch, if you can believe that! I love the snow!!! I like to just flop down in front of the gate or on the little hill in the yard so I can survey my kingdom, and just let the snow pile up on me. We've got about a two inch accumulation now. Schweet.

It's odd that just as the temps begin to dip into the single digets that my body should decide to "blow coat". Great tufts of beautiful silky fur are just falling off me, much to the dismay of Mom and Dad. I guess they don't like it sticking all over their clothes and strangling the vacuum. Mom wants a new vacuum anyway, so this is just my contribution toward that goal. They should be thanking me!

Mom is a bit miffed with the quality of television shows, now that she's got the opportunity to watch them at will. She was looking forward to plunking down in front of the tube and watching gardening shows all day long. Alas! It is a sad state of affairs indeed...
It seems that all the gardening shows she used to watch in days-gone-by, the really good informative shows, have been replaced with stupid gardening shows. Farewell "Victory Garden", hello "Garden Police", a dorky show where two "cops" pretend they're going to arrest someone, complete with lights 'n' sirens, because their landscaping is so appalling, then they proceed to make the person get things in order, with their help, or else!!! Duh.
Farewell, "Way To Grow" and "Gardener's Journal", hello "Growing By The Yard", a show that does offer some good gardening advice, but is presented in such a dumbed-down and slapstick manner that it is actually painful to watch, (not mention embarrassing if someone walks into the room and sees us watching it!)
Fortunately, years ago Mom recorded a bunch of the old shows when she was unable to at watch them while they were on TV. She's got about dozen of theses tapes, which she now considers gems, and she's been enjoying throughout the day. Life savers!!

Skump, as we more often refer to Flower than her actual name of Flower, was here for a brief visit on Sunday. It seems the oldest pup stopped in for a brief visit and the Skump had run of the house the entire time. She made herself right at home; it was obvious she knew right where she was, and wasted no time in knocking over the trash can by Mom's desk (she just can't stand to see that can standing upright), opening all the kitchen cupboards that she could reach and pulling out everything she could, not unlike a human baby her age.
Mom and Dad didn't seem to mind though, because they knew that when Jeremy left she'd be going too! They actually enjoyed having her visit....so did I and the cats!

For cryin' out loud! People are such whiners...whimps! When I was spayed I don't recall getting any pain meds afterwards, though thankfully I was spared the actual pain of the surgery itself by being "put under". I was taken home and just took it like a dog afterwards. Mom said she's stopped taking the pain meds, though the shoulder still hurts; she's not sure which is worse, the ache from no meds (which she claims were mostly useless) , or the stomach pain when she did take the stuff! Good grief! You just can't please some folks.
And this is interesting....Mom, the blood & guts EMT, couldn't watch when I got spayed! She said she watched and even helped the vet when other dogs and cats were separated from their reproductive bits, but she just couldn't handle seeing me undergo such a procedure.
How touching. She could have spared me the entire ordeal in the first place....now I just have to make do with little stuffed toy babies.

I thought yesterday was weird, but last night was even weirder! Mom didn't sleep in the waterbed with Dad! She slept in the recliner all night! If you could call that sleeping. She had the TV on all night and would fall asleep for a few minutes, then get up and walk around, then go in and watch TV, then get up and walk around, then fall asleep for a few minutes, then pop a pain pill....this went on all night. I wasn't sure what to do, and quite frankly I find that weid thing on Mom's arm kind of scary, so I stayed in the waterbed with Dad most of the night.

OK, Mom didn't get up early and go to work, which is really weird. Later in the a.m. Mom and Dad left and didn't get home until around 6 p.m. Do you think they have any clue how difficult it is to "hold it in" for 8 hours? I'm sure their bladders would explode if they were to try that little stnt, but Tristan and I performed admirably (if "holding it" can be considered a performance) .
At any rate, they returned home, and things just weren't "normal". Mom smells funny and has this big thing on her arm. She spent the entire evening in the recliner griping about pain pills that don't work. And she won't play fetch with me, or kick ball...this just isn't right; I may have to protest in some way.

Yeah, that's me! I'm a jumper of incredible heights. Apparently Mom is too....or rather, was.
It seems Mom's nephew, Matt, plays high school basketball in Indiana. He is, afterall, only 6' 6"! (Tall + Indiana = Basketball) It seems that Matt is a fantastic rebounder, and everyone is calling him the "rebounding machine". He routinely brings down 10-16 rebounds per game. He is a pretty good scorer, too.
ANYWAY, Mom says "back in the day" when she used to play high school basketball in Indiana (and she's only 5' 7") she played center. She was never the tallest person on the team, but she could out-jump everyone, even those 6-footers. She's telling Matt that he's got a long way to go before he breaks her rebounding record of 25 rebounds in one game (which, as far as we know, is a school record that stands to this day, but we could be wrong). Mom admits that she was an "animal" under the net...when she sets her mind to doing something, there's no stopping her. Which is probably why she ends up with hernias and rotator cuff injuries and the like. Maybe growing up with three brothers does that to a girl!
Go Matt! Hoosier Hysteria!
