Buster - RIP

hello friends of Buster -

I am very sad to report that yesterday, June 4, we put Buster to sleep. He had developed some new medical problems since the beginning of the year, and in the last few weeks he had gotten to the point that his quality of life was pretty much gone. We made the hard decision to let him go peacefully, knowing how much we loved him.

Thanks to all his Dogster friends for your notes and gifts over the years. I will try to write notes to his special friends when I can - for now it is hard. I miss him so very much. I wish every human would enjoy having such a loving dog in their life - how lucky Mark and I have been to have over 6 years with this boy.

And remember: a middle-aged rescued dog can fill you life with joy. Buster did.

missing him so much,

Debbie

A week with my cousins

Yo Dogsters!

Hot Rod and Bogie are here for the week while their parents are in Hawaii. Guess what new game we discovered - eat the cat poop! Yep. We were out in the back yard Sunday and discovered some nuggets. My mom says maybe Hot Rod II the kitty came over and left them. Anyway mom has been desperately searching the yard for any remainders because she was so grossed out at us. We did it again that night in the middle of the night when we went out to "go." She was yelling at us and I'm sure the neighbors thought we had been up to no good.

There are truly some things that I would not be interested in at all when by myself, but when my cousins are here I get really into it. Like cat poop hunting. Also, like barking at the mail man. Usually I could care less, but the pack thing gets going and there you have it.

Hot Rod is quite the alpha. I let him be it because I could care less. Today when my mom got home from work Hot Rod yelled at her (BARK! BARK! BARK!) until he could get her into the kitchen to get our dinner. Good job, cuz.

Hey Dogsters!

Sorry I've been such a slacker in the diary department. The older I get the slower I get. Some days it is all I can do to get up off the floor for anything other than FOOD and WALKS - my two best things.

So it is Stanley Cup playoff time now. It means my humans watch a lot of hockey on TV so I get to hang out with them and snore and snort and relax. It also means they leave sometimes to go watch the Sharks play and when they do, I sneak onto their bed and make myself comfortable. The last time I actually scrunched down the covers and snuggled on my mom's pillow. She was a little cranky about it when she got home, but I was so cute up there with my little stub wagging that how could she be mad?

Go Sharks!!

Me? Dog of the Day?

If I had a tail I'd be running around in circles chasing it! Mom got on the computer this morning and discovered I was Dog of the Day yesterday! Woof! We would have missed the whole thing except that a whole bunch of nice Dogsters sent me rosettes, pawmail, and PupPal requests. Thanks so much - You guys are the greatest.

To celebrate I am lying on the floor taking a nap.

My Tail of Devotion for Buster

Buster says: I don't remember why my last family gave me away; it seems like I've been here all my life. Thanks for loving me and feeding me and walking me and letting me rest my head in your lap and jump up on the bed. Thanks for introducing me to the neighbors and letting me hang out with the kids. I'm getting old and tired now so I'm glad things are usually pretty quiet around here. No matter what happens, I love you and dad unconditionally. I love life.

Debbie says: Thanks for being such a sweet, affectionate boy. How did you find your way to us? What a perfect fit you are. It's as if you've always been part of our little family. Love the way you stretch your leg up to touch me when you are lying on your back, and the way you stand still for old people and little kids to pet you . I treasure every day with you and hope the tumors and other medical problems remain at bay for some time to come.

Independence, baby!

Hey Dogsters!

I know many of my friends are from countries throughout the world. So you may not know that today I celebrated Independence Day.

My mom said she hopes someday soon we have a President that truly cares about personal freedom. I'm not sure what she means but I'm all for freedom. Especially if it means freedom to eat when I want and hang out with my human and dog friends. My mom says there are bigger issues than that, but hey, I'm a dog and our needs are pretty basic.

Today we thought of the many brave soldiers risking their lives, and their families. I wore my red, white and blue collar which you can see if you look through all my pictures. We went for coffee in the morning and then walked around a pond. We worked in the yard and watched World Cup on TV. Dad BBQed steaks and I got a little bite.

Life is good.

Slacking

Yeah, I know that I've been slacking, fellow Dogsters. It's hard to write in your diary regularly when you're getting old. I was going to write about my adventures with Hot Rod and Bogie while my folks were on vacation in Florida, but mom wasn't there to see what happened that week, so she couldn't help me write. And now here we are with those dogs here at my house while their folks are in Yosemite (if they made it despite the SNOW!). We all got a little worked up last night when there was thunder and lightning. Yikes!

There's something sad I need to report. If you read my earlier diaries you heard about my pit bull friend Chyna and her Great Dane brother Duke. Well last month their daddy Rusty was found dead in his house. My mom and dad are really upset because they knew Rusty since he was only a kid. And I was upset because he was always really nice to me and rubbed my chest until all the white hairs came floating out like snow.

Well Rusty was living with his grandpa and now it looks like grandpa has gone to a home, and Chyna and Duke are who knows where. We sure hope they went to good homes. They were great dogs to have as neighbors and we are very sad that they and their dad aren't here anymore.

So just remember kids, life is short, life is good, get in all the kisses and hugs you can every day, OK?

love ya,

The Buster

Dock of the Bay

Hey!

I just spent the last few days in the Monterey area with the folks. We stayed at a great place in Carmel Valley that allows dogs, the Valley Lodge - check them out: www.valleylodge.com

Anyway one day we walked around Fisherman's Wharf in Monterey. The ocean was a little rough because of the storms and this boat dock was rising and falling with the tides. Don't you know that was scary! My hackles went up and I started growling, and then I barked. And barked. And barked. Mom and dad were laughing so hard they could barely take my picture. It surprised them because ordinarily I'm a quiet dog. But there was something freaky about that dock, let me tell you.

On the way back home we picked up Hot Rod and Bogie and they are staying at my house until Wednesday. We're going to take naps now.

Hope you all have many bones and walks and hugs in the new year!

A fine day to be a dog

Yo dogs,

Today was Christmas and I went in the car with my humans to visit my mom's grandma. She is 91 and lives in a senior mobile home park where dogs over 20 pounds are illegal! Yikes! I had to be undercover. There were 12 humans and 5 dogs all together. We dogs got along very well. There was me, my cousins Hot Rod and Bogie, Nikko the dachshund, and Daisy the chihuahua. Hot Rod tried to dominate Nikko (like he used to do to me before Bogie started getting cranky about it). Bogie and Nikko zoomed around the house really fast. It looked like a cartoon and was so funny!

Well I am sure lucky that my greatgrandma loves dogs, and especially she loves me because I am so mellow, and I especially love her because she pets me and tells me what a good boy I am, and also because her motto is: "Isn't Life Beautiful?" Well yes as a matter of fact it is, and that is in fact the personal motto of almost every dog, including me.

HAPPY NEW YEAR DOGSTERS! xoxoxoo The Buster
