Arrival Story: Isabella had been taken by the Vidor City Shelter because her former “family” had her chained up outside with the chain literally looped around her neck and hooked into itself, that’s right, NO COLLAR. I was browsing www.petfinder.com, found her, and fell in love. The next day I called the shelter and arranged to go, pick her up and take her home. After a 2 hour drive, we went into the shelter’s office and there was this tiny, dirty, and scared little Chihuahua baby girl wrapped up in a towel. The lady passed her to me and almost instantly Isabella stopped shaking and fell asleep in my arms. I knew at that moment that I was “HER’S”. We brought her home gave her two baths of flea and tic shampoo to kill the colony of fleas that covered her little 5.2lb body, spine and ribs protruding, and cleaned her ears with 8 ear wipes and 12 q-tips, I gave up on the ears until we took her to the vet for medication because it was so painful for her. I am sure her ears had NEVER been cleaned, in fact the ladies at the shelter said they were more than positive she had NEVER seen a vet (she was about 1 year old then). She is now up to a svelte 6.5lbs and will never be dirty, hungry or cold again.

Bio: Isabella has two very best friends Suzie a 70lb. German Shorthaired Pointer that adores Bella and Freedom, a 60lb. American Staffordshire (?) Mix who "tolerates" Bella! She's a spoiled little princess and LOVES to go to grandmother and grandfather's house where she get spoiled even more!!!

Well, OK this is southeast Texas so the one day of snow was gone before it could even be enjoyed. We had ONE day of spring and have now entered summer! A few days ago the high was about 101 degress with 90% humidity! So needless to say, going out to potty has become a "workout" for me. We live on the third floor and I used to squirm if mommy or daddy tried to carry me down the stairs, I'm a big girl, I can do it (and we wonder why my pads on the bottoms of my feet are still PINK!!!) but now I sprint down the stairs potty and sprint back to the stairs and stand there, stare at them and wait until they pick me up and take me to the top. I refuse to get stinky just to climb some silly stairs. I have to tell ya folks, life in the air conditioning is GREAT!!!

Isabella experienced her 1st time away from mommy and daddy over New Years weekend, when her parents had to go out of town to see their Texas A&M Aggies sadly get smothered by Tennessee at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, TX, but that’s a whole other diary entry....Isabella stayed with her two friends Rex and Maddie, of the Cocker persuasion, and 3 cats one local and two visitors! Apparently the cats aren't used to a dog that can run and move as fast as them and get into the same small spaces as them! She had a great time but was super exhausted from all the excitement! So exhausted that today Jan 3, 2005, she forgot she was banned from all foods named CHOCOLATE, and while daddy was at work and mommy was out shopping, she decided to get into a bag of chocolates that had accidentally been left in Chihuahua territory! She was rushed to the vet and had her stomach cleared off all the "toxins" and had charcoal injected into her tummy to soak up anything left that could hurt her. We were very scared as dogs her size generally have a much harder time with the chocolate than larger dogs and we really didn't know just how much she ate. She is perfectly fine, but has now been demoted back to a crate puppy!!!!!

Isabella had her 1st experience with "real" snow, funny it was her Mommy's 1st experience with "real" as well because here on the Gulf Coast in Texas, snow isn’t exactly common. There would have been pictures of her with the snow except she refused to get her little paws cold or wet....so just the fond memories of it will have to do!
