Birthday: March 15th 2006 Bio: -Honey - is there anything sweeter? This little girl is so sweet, I am not even sure how to write it! It makes it all the more difficult to see her sick. :( Shortly after arrival, we found a few things that Honey needs some help with:
She has a horrible, severe infestation of whipworms and hookworms. We are treating her, but she has had boughts of vomiting and bloody diarrhea and has lost a few pounds since arriving. She is 14.5 lbs, but should probably be about 20 lbs.
-Her coat is quite scruffy, and she has an area of hair loss on her back that the veterinarians are scratching their heads about. They indicated that it "looks like" a chemical burn of some kind, but we can not say for sure. We are not sure if fur will grow back there, but it is fairly well covered. Once she gets rid of her worms, and the supplements and natural food we are giving her take hold, her coat will look amazing!
-She has a visual impairment of some kind. Look at the photo to the left. See how her eyes point outward? According to the vets, if she were a person, she would need glasses. Since we do not have doggie glasses, you just have to be mindful that sometimes she does not see things as "in focus" as we do. Sometimes she'll run to you, but be a few feet to one side, or she may midjudge doors or walls. Once she gets comfortable somewhere, this improves. Her eyes are light responsive, though, so it's a focusing issue at this point.
-She has a cyst on her ribcage that we will have our vets biopsy.
-We need to wait for Honey to gain some weight and get rid of her parasites before we do her spay surgery and biopsy.
Despite all of this, Honey just wants to be with someone. She will fall asleep on your your lap if you let her. When you go to sleep, she crawls onto your pillow and lays on your head - wrapping her neck around yours!! She loves other dogs, but does not necessarily need another dog in the home. She is cratetrained and is working on her housetraining. She is a very special little beagle who will make an amazing addition to the right family. I've Been On Dogster Since:
