Arrival Story:
I was originally looking for a female Beagle to add to the family, but as it turned out Curtis made very clear he did NOT want a Beagle in the family. Not one to listen to my dogs wishes (I mean, seriously, if I listened to their wishes, they'd be fed 24 hours a day!), I went to the local shelter to check out some Beagles they had. Next to one sweet female, I looked over and saw Austen (then, Chantilly). She was quietly watching me. As I reached over to give her a pet, she leaned into the fence of the cage and then nibbled gently on my fingers. I fell in love! So, I went looking for a Beagle, found her instead and Curtis got his wish! It was win-win all around.
Bio:
Considering Austen's talents and personality as she's grown up, I'm almost positive she's a Treeing Tennessee Brindle. She has a natural hunting ability - particularly deer and squirrel, though anything will do. She's got quite a voice on her, too. Whenever we go hiking, she can find the deer and get them running - as soon as she does, I know it because her "bay"ing is definitely loud, unique, and clear. She's got a particular talent at finding squirrels and treeing them. If she could, I think she'd climb the trees after them.
