Arrival Story:
I was originally looking for a female Beagle to add to the family, but as it turned out Curtis made very clear he did NOT want a Beagle in the family. Not one to listen to my dogs wishes (I mean, seriously, if I listened to their wishes, they'd be fed 24 hours a day!), I went to the local shelter to check out some Beagles they had. Next to one sweet female, I looked over and saw Austen (then, Chantilly). She was quietly watching me. As I reached over to give her a pet, she leaned into the fence of the cage and then nibbled gently on my fingers. I fell in love! So, I went looking for a Beagle, found her instead and Curtis got his wish! It was win-win all around.

Bio:
I look like a brindle Rhodesian Ridgeback, without the tell-tale ridge of hair. Don't know what that means I'll look like as I get older and get my weight back, but I'm willing to bet I'll look gorgeous and exotic!

First Obedience Class

Tonight was my first obedience class. There were lots of pretty, cute, and young, happy pups there and I really wanted to greet and play with them, but mom wouldn't let me. She said I had to behave. The other dogs were really good at all the stuff the teacher asked my mom and me to do, but I spent a lot of time watching the other pups. Next week, I'll show them how smart I am.

My mom and I did do a great job with the tug/motivation part of the class. The other new pups were very surprised how well I played tig with mom and my enthusiasm for the game... what can I say, I know how to live in the moment!

Carpe tug!

Wow! What a day! Last night I got to sleep on the bed with my new mom. It was wonderful! I felt so warm, comfortable, and loved. And today, I got to go to the dogpark with my mom and brothers. It is a wonderful place! There are acres of open land for me to run around and explore. It was raining, but that was fine, after a bit I was so excited, I hardly noticed. Curtis and I played chase and tag. He’s a great playmate. A little rough, but fast enough to catch me (if I want him to). And, he’s easy to get playing, all I have to is run past and hip check him and he’ll play. Derby is harder to get playing, but once he does... I’ve got some competition in the speed game. Derby is much faster than me, but I turn better. I’m looking forward to many years of trying to one-up him. Both my brothers are quite vocal while playing and I love it! I fit right in with these guys, no doubt.

Well, right now, I’m curled up behind my mom.

I’ve finally hit the jackpot! Sometimes, dreams do come true...

Welcome Home

Well, I just arrived in my new home. It is a lot different from the shelter. For one thing, my new "den" is much bigger! and, no more cold concrete floor. It is quieter, too, and not so many strange people walking around and staring at me. I like my new home a lot. I like the big yard (with lots of room to run and play) and the really comfortable sofa!

My brothers are a bit weird - the one keeps raising his lips at me and the other one ignores me. However, I'll win them over soon. I'm too cute to be ignored and growled at for long. Besides, who can resist a puppy? Curtis and I did take a long "pack" walk together around my new neighborhood, so we feel a little more friendly towards each other. And, I learned my way home if ever I happen to wander off (I hope not, but you never know).

I'm having trouble getting used to being apart from everyone and in my x-pen. Although I can see them all, I am separated and it makes me unhappy. Mom keeps telling me it'll be okay and I'll get the hang of it, but I don't like it. I do get out though for periods of time to wander, explore, and just hang with the family. So, it isn't all bad.

I just got dinner... so, gotta go eat!
