Arrival Story:
Ricky Duncan was adopted from Sheltie Rescue of GA. We saw his pic on Petfinder. He is the second sheltie we have gotten from SRG and the third we have adopted after seeing them on Petfinder. Ricky was a puppy mill rescue, kept for breeding purposes but never bred. He was kept in a 10x10 pen the entire first year of his life at which time he was given to rescue, hungry, matted, dirty and unsocialized. It is taking some time foir Ricky-now Duncan, to trust. It has not been that long since he was incarcerated at the Puppy Mill. He was fostered a few weeks before we adopted him. He is clean, fed, happy and loves to play with Rico. He loves us and I believe he knows he is loved. He has beautiful smiles and has begun given me kisses on his own terms. Duncan needs prayers and love. We can't wait for the day he will enjoy cuddling with us, I think since he is young he may come around. We love him unconditionally , in any case.

My New Life-A Shelties Story

Day Two at "Rescue"

Wow! I slept in a house with other doggies just like me. These other doggies didn't seem afraid at all. They ran around with things called "toys". These "toys" I found out can be several different things. The other shelties threw these "toys" about and expressed alot of excitement about exactly who would keep which toy. Minutes later they would jump about and roll with each other wagging their tails. I hadn't had much experience with tail wagging. A lady and man fed us all! They took us all outside to a fenced area that was large enougth to RUN in! I was afraid to run at first. What kind of place was this? There was green glass on the ground. This must be heaven! But how long would I be here? I heard noises overhead that were very loud and this scared me very much! What was that sound? I heard this quite often. At it always was VERY close by. If you want to know more of my story I will tell you what this sound was in my next diary entry.

My New Life

I began my life in a puppy mill. This was not good. I was kept in a very small pen the entire first year of my life. I did not have enough to eat or drink. I was very sad and wondered why life was this way and no one loved me. My coat was dirty and matted and I was covered in fleas that were terrible! I didn';t even have a bone to chew on! The people their were very harsh to me.
One day some people came and took me away and I was very frightened. I was not used to people putting their hands on me. I came into what is called "rescue". I went to a very nice home where there were other shelties. Wow! Did they look strange-they had full coats, and had a very different smell than me. I noticed this right away. I was given food and water. I'd never had so much water! All that I wanted! They had so much water that they decided to put me in some! I really didn't know if this was good or not! They told me it would be okay. They were kind and gentle and didn't try to hurt me when I tried to jump out. I got what they called a bath! I came out smelling like the other dogs! The liitle biting bugs on me that made my life miserable were gone. I felt alot better, but I was still very frightened. I wondered what would happen next.Would I go back to the bad place?
