Birthday:
October 11th 2002

Likes:
Just being close to his human family, been petted and a good romp with his sister, Freya.

Pet-Peeves:
Dog food & flies

Favorite Toy:
Past the stage playing with toys, much more interesting things to do like keeping an eye on Mommy...

Favorite Food:
Anything that is different from the day before (preferably not dogfood), dog biscuits

Favorite Walk:
To the village with a romp in the park along the way and a walk on the wall at a local parking lot.

Best Tricks:
Carrying "Daddy's" lunch box, staying on command and just being a good boy

Arrival Story:
We actually went to choose a female and there was this little guy with the cheekiest expression and biggest of big paws. He was the runt of the litter and weighed less than half the average weight of his siblings at birth. Weighing in at 290 grams (0.639 lbs) he now weighs 58.5kg (127.8 lbs) by far surpassing his sister who we also got from the same litter. And he is not fat, just got a very big and deep chest.

Bio:
Bilbo started off as the smallest in the litter but looking at him today you would not believe that. He detests food, eating is like a punishment for him! He would much prefer to eat from a menu as the same food two days running is definitely not meant for a dog of his standing. Like all Berners he loves attention, loves draping himself over you or even sitting on your lap if he can get half a chance. Fortunately he doesn't stay put for long, with his weight he prefers the floor. Together with his sister, Freya they make an excellent guard dog combo their size being more effective than anything else. Bilbo was laid to rest on 31 Jan 2011 after a slow decline in his health and it was deemed necessary to relieve him from any more suffering. He is sorely missed :(

Growing old not so gracefully

I am getting old now, my bones are getting stiff and my stomach no longer tolerates food like it did when I was a pup. Every now and then (more often than not) it gets upset and medicine doesn't help. I am getting very thin now as well so I don't think it is so long before I cross the rainbow bridge.
I have had to move outside now because I can no longer control my bowel like I did when I was younger and my owner just can't get the door open fast enough some nights and I get so embarrassed when this happens! To top it all my stomach hurts so much I have no option but too mess.
But now my owner has built a huge kennel where I can lay comfortably on my bed alongside my sister, Freya, who has had to move outside with me but she is not cross with me. She understands that I can't go to live outside alone and that I can't help that my body is getting old faster than hers.
Its not so bad being outside although I do miss lying alongside my owner when she sits at the computer or at night when she goes to bed. Now I have the advantage over those cats that come trespassing in the yard ...... almost had one the other night! WOOF! Darn my bones that are stiff and ears that are not as sharp as they use to be, cat got away but he now knows I can chase him, not like when I am indoors and can't get out!
Winter is almost here now and I must learn not to walk around in the rain because then my bed gets very wet when I go to lie down, oh well I need all the rest I can get and the view from the kennel is not so bad, can see a lot of what is happening on the other side of the fence.
Well, I think I will be off now . Will chat again sometime WOOF WOOF

A Typical Day

I just love to sleep through the hottest hours of the day. I spend most of my summer evenings on the cool kitchen floor, ooh I do hate the heat but worst of all are the flies that come with it. I hate flies, really hate them. They bug me no end and if I can't catch them the only thing to do is hide under the table or ask Mommy for help.
Weekends I like to wake Mommy and Daddy up, they don't need to sleep in. I have figured that if I do some heavey breathing Mommy soon wakes up but if that does not help some moaning always does the trick. It is not that I need to go out or anything but if they need to get up at 6 every other morning why should weekends be any different.
Once they are awake I am quite content to go back to lounging on the floor. I would actually like to get back up on the bed but I have been banned from that but maybe they will need me to warm up the bed in winter again - I sure hope so. I just love draping myself over Mommy in the bed, it is soooo comfortable and I can usually get an extra scratch behind my ears then.
When it cools down a bit in the evening I like to have some serious fun with my sister Freya. She can get so cross but I just ignor her most of the time, she isn't really all that cross.
What I hate the most is dinner time. I hate dog pellets, sometimes they are not so bad. I don't know why but I don't like food it tastes awful, I would rather eat human food that is so long as they eat something different everyday. I would not mind some bread every day though. Mommy says I have got to eat all my food and tries to make it taste better but uggg it is still dogfood!! My sister, she loves the food and will come round and clean my bowl, the floor and everything else after I have finished forcing the horrible stuff down. I don't know why she won't eat my food for me when Mom isn't looking.
