Arrival Story:
Sammy is the nephew of our dog, Ch. Nautilus Rainbow's Harpo Barx, Rowdy for short. We wanted another Portuguese Water Dog as a companion for Rowdy as he was picking on our 17 year old Samoyed and fighting with our grumpy Pekinese. He needed a young dog and friends who had shown Rowdy had a litter with an improper coat who needed a home. The two dogs are inseparable, and their coat patterns and coloring are very similar.

Sam's character & traits:
Sammy is what is known as an "Improper Coat" Portie. These are quite common and resemble retrievers, lacking the curly coat of most PWs. His DNA has been read and he is 100% purebred Portuguese Water Dog, although he is 2 inches taller and 30 lbs. heavier than breed standard. He has had a weight problem since puppyhood and we have had his thyroid checked twice and tried everything we can think of, but he remains our Sam the Doublewide. He is a very sweet, loving boy, and his best trait is his gentle way with small babies and children. They can pull his fur, grab his nose, lay on him, even jump on him and he doesn't even open his eyes.
