I don't know if you'd consider it a trick, but I've been playing fetching since I was 8 weeks old.
Arrival Story:
I had lost my beloved Foxy-Rat, Remi to congestive heart failure earlier in the year, she was only 12. It broke my heart. Everyone kept telling me to get another dog...they did not understand.
Good intentioned friends and family kept telling me about different ones and sending me pictures on line. I told them I was not ready, but I knew when I was it would have to be another Ratty.
Then my son sent me a link to Petfinder.com, telling me about all the animals that needed rescuing, that needed a good home like I could give. I found myself scanning the site every now and then, even made a few inquiries, but I just did not feel ready.
One night I came across this picture and story of a little pup listed as Reece. He was in a metro animal shelter less than 100 miles from my home. I fell in love with his little face on Petfinder.com, but still did not think I was ready and it would not be fair to him.
Long story short my son and a friend took me to see him, and even though my broken heart was not ready, I could not leave him there. I still think about and miss my Remi everyday, but Cooper (as he is now known) has brought joy back into my life.
Who knew that puppy saliva could help mend a broken heart?
