One week today

Well, today is a full week since Ayla arrived. It's been some week with lots of diarrhea. We took her to the vet this morning to have her stool checked for parasites. Sure enough she has coccidia which is an intestinal parasite common in puppies. She is on antibiotics for one week. Hopefully she starts behaving more normally and her stools firm up really soon. She whines alot because I think her tummy bothers her. We got alot of good information from the vet though. He told us that we should find a good name brand mid priced food to feed her. Preferably one for large breeds so we picked up Purina One large breed puppy food. The big dogs will have to work on finishing up on the Kent Native 3 but the vet was not thrilled about us feeding that because they thought that Kent was a small company thus not regulated with low standards for their ingredients. I thought that the diarrhea problem was because of the food, and it could be a factor, but I'm glad we caught the coccidia when we did.
She has to go back next week for her 9 week shots. She checked out good today though. She weighed just under 10 pounds and she seems pretty thin to me. Puppies her age usually still have alot of baby fat but not Ayla. Of course, she hasn't really been able to process the food she's been eating because of the parasite so hopefully she starts to put on some weight too.
She continues to be very intelligent. When she can't make it outside, she potties on the puppy pad. She will be very easy to get completely housebroke. I can't wait to start on training her.

4th full day

Ayla had a pretty good day today. She still has the runs and I'm not sure why that is. We changed dog foods again since the last one we used gave all the dogs an upset tummy and very frequent bowel movements. I took that food back and got a different food that the lady said was good for german shepherds because that breed should not have any food with corn in it. That was good to know.
Ayla got in a little tussle with Jack today and I guess Jack went for her face out of the blue and gave her a little bitty cut under her left eye. It was swollen for a little while but this evening it is fine.
I hope her stools become more normal really soon or she'll have to take a visit to the vet this weekend.

2nd full day

Well, there was a storm lastnight but Ayla slept right through it. She has been sleeping through the night very well. She is learning better how to "hold it" til she gets outside and then she lets loose. She has only had 3 accidents since arriving at her new home on saturday.
She is already very attached to her new human family. She will whine if she can't see one of us. Kenny was with her yesterday morning getting ready for work. Ayla was sleeping on the couch and Kenny got up to go make coffee. When he got up she woke up and began to whine because she couldn't see him. He rushed back in to see what was wrong with her and she quit. So he went back into the kitchen all the while talking to Ayla. She didn't whine and went back to sleep. She loves the sound of his voice I guess.
She is having a bit of bowel trouble since eating the big dogs' food. We have had her strictly on her Diamond Puppy since yesterday but her stools are still runny. Hopefully that clears up in the next day or two. She is due for another worming this week too and then her next set of shots the first week of April.
She has a great time play fighting with the cat since he is the only one that is her size. It's very cute watching them together.
