Hi, I'm Brenden, and a sweeter guy you've never met. I love everyone, including small dogs who bother the heck out of me. My best friend is a Chihuahua, and I sleep with her. I am totally house trained, very polite, and non-destructive. I am very smart too- my foster Mom says I'm the smartest of all the dogs- when they're not around. I love playing outside with my boxer friend, and with my kong or rawhide bone. Sometimes for fun I go around and gather up all the soft fuzzy things I can- and take them to my bed. I never damage them, though. I love to snuggle with my Mom and my Chihuahua girlfriend, and guess what- I DON'T snore!!
SO, now you're asking, if I'm so great, why hasn't someone snapped me up yet? Well, I have a little problem. I have mega esophagus (a genetic problem), which means food has a harder time getting to my stomach where it can give me nutrition. So, I have to eat canned food (no dry food or treats), and must eat so that gravity sends that food to my stomach. Mom has figured out how to do this easily, and I'm doing really well. I was pretty skinny, but have put on over 15 lbs. in 2 weeks now that I am eating right. I really don't take that much extra care, and I am sure worth it! Won't you consider giving me a home? I promise to give you my heart and devotion in return!

Brenden was diagnosed with megaesophagus. The esophagus is the tube connecting the throat with the stomach. When food is perceived in the esophagus, neurological reflexes causing muscle contraction and relaxation lead to rapid transport of the food into the stomach, like an elevator going down. Other reflexes prevent breathing during this swallowing process. When these reflexes are interrupted, the esophagus loses its ability to transport food.

In order for Brenden to transport food into his stomach, he needs to eat like a human, in an upright position. Right now we are evaluating certain food to give Brenden the most nutrition possible. His foster mom feeds him in a sitting position for now, but, there is a special chair, like a child's high chair that dogs with Brenden's condition are fed in. This chair was designed by a lady who had a German Shepherd with this condition. We will build it for him. It only takes an extra few minutes to feed him this way, but, he can live his normal , goofy, happy life.
Brenden is one of the most wonderful dogs we have taken in, and we will make sure he gets all it takes. Donations for his holistic food are very welcome.

Here’s Brenden. Brenden is a wonderful guy, about a year old. He has not been well fed, but we will soon fix that. Brenden is very smart, and sweet. He loves people, and all other dogs. Even small dogs like him. He likes to play with “fetch” toys, and interesting bones. He enjoys being outside with his friends, and of course, with you! Brenden is very gentle, which is good, because Brenden is going to be a big boy- close to 70 lbs. we think. He will be a wonderful companion for someone!

Brenden, I discovered, is a wonderful dog to walk with- he heels without being asked, and is a great car rider too! I took him into PetSmart today and he was a perfect gentleman!
