Gator loved to play and was just an over all loving dog. He loved going for rides in the car.

Pet-Peeves:
being told 'no'

Favorite Toy:
He loved knotted up socks.

Best Tricks:
The one thing that I always thought was great about Gator is that he loved knotted socks to play with but he would never take one that wasn't his.

Arrival Story:
Gator came to me by pure chance. I took a stray cat to the SPCA to be Nuetered (who has since become a permanent part of the family - he is pictured sleeping in the chair with Gator - look closely). Anyway, I went to pick the cat up from his surgery and arrived a little early. I decided to go look at the dogs to kill time. I asked one of the workers if they had any pit bulls. He took me to one that he said was really nice and had just come in. There in the cage was this gorgeous white pitbull just begging me to take him home. The SPCA has a policy of doing a home inspection prior to releasing pitbulls, so we had couldn't take him home right away. He had just arrived that day and it killed me that he had to spend the night there, but after a day and a half of jumping through hoops, I was finally able to bring him home. I have never felt a bond with an animal like I did with Gator. I cannot explain it as I have other pets that I truly love but it was different with him. Even now, 2 years later, I miss him a lot and get teary eyed when I think about him. He will always have a special place in my heart.

Bio:
The below is a story about Gator's death that I wrote for a college English paper. I felt it was worth Sharing. GATOR I knew the situation was not good that Monday afternoon when my dog Gator and I walked into the veterinarian’s office, but I never expected the events that would come. This was our third visit to veterinarian's office in just ten days. Gator was only a little over a year old but he had for some reason started chewing on his back paw, and it was getting worse by the day. The first two visits to the veterinarian seemed to have come with no real solution. By this visit, Gator’s foot was reeking of the raw flesh that was hanging from it. He had chewed the paw beyond the toenails and bone, to the meat that lay below. When Dr. McKinney entered the exam room and pulled the gauze away from Gator’s paw, I could tell by the look in his eyes that the outlook was grim. I was praying for a miracle, a cure that would instantly heal my dog’s paw. After what seemed like an eternity came the news I had been dreading. Gator was suffering from an incurable mental disorder called Obsessive Chewing Disorder. The news only got worse when Dr. McKinney reluctantly suggested Gator be euthanized. My heart sank as it filled with sadness. It had never even crossed my mind that I might have to leave there without my beloved pet. I sat there stunned at what I was hearing. Gator was his normal happy self with only a bad paw. There had to be another option but there was not. Dr. McKinney left the room to prepare the injection, allowing me a few minutes to say goodbye to Gator. My eyes filled with tears as the reality of what was happening came to me. Those tears began to run down my cheeks when Dr. McKinney returned with the lethal solvent in his hand. It would be just moments until Gator would be gone. The tears blurred my vision as the blue green fluid was injected into his body, but quickly he went limp, and I knew it was over. I never looked at Dr. McKinney’s face when I turned and walked from the exam room that afternoon, but I am sure there were tears in his eyes also. Rest in peace, Gator.
