Arrival Story:
Oni is up for adoption, she came to us as a foster doggie. She is the sweetest most lovable dog but she is the omego (bottom of the pack) in our household and it seems like she's always getting her toys and treats taken away - though she seldom seems to really mind. I wonder if perhaps she would be better as an only dog. I honestly don't know, she loves her canine siblimgs but I think she might blossom with someones undivided attention. She LOVES attention and is just a lover. She is going in tomorrow (March 25, 2009 to get spayed). Oni came to us when she was 6 months old in Nov. 2008. Isis had died and Ra was depressed over losing his sister. I couldn't bear the thought of getting a 'replacement' puppy but he needed a companion to get him out of his funk so Lee contacted a wolf rescue group and inquired about fostering. Within just a few days Shika, Oni & Nanu (see Baby in my favorites) arrived. They were starving, had endured a 6 day journey, fraught with difficulty, in crates from Wisconsin. They were scared and skinny but happy to be out of their crates. Oni & Nanu were 6 month old siblings and Shika was 2 years old. Oni was Lee's immediate favorite. She was 'lucky' enough to have been killed by her canine father when she was 2 weeks old and that caused her, once resuscitated, to be taken away from the pack and raised with humans. I say that is 'lucky' because her sister Nanu, who will always have a special place in my heart, suffers still from lack of human socialization, while Oni loves everyone and would follow anyone home happily. (Nanu got adopted by the best family ever, where she gets the 1 on 1 human interaction that she needed for her social development. She was VERY shy and it took special people to adopt her and she is blossoming in their care, although it was REALLY hard for me to admit that she needed a home where she couldn't hide within the canine pack and to give her up. Her humans are wonderful and send me photo's and reports often. She is blossoming under their amazing care! They even buy her bottled water!) Oni, like the other 2, gained a whole bunch of weight rapidly, over 5 lbs each in the first week. She was only 34 lbs when she came to us and I think she is 50+ now (and frankly a but tubby). They all shed their coats in Dec and January (the wrong time) and replaced them with beautiful, healthy coats. She's currently taking 'manners' class privately with me, kind of getting the short end of the stick and not getting to attend with Puck and Shika because each dog needs it's own handler and Oni is already so well socialized that we chose to take the other two. I still put in the same amount of time working with her on her skills and manners and clicker training though and she is doing well. She's quite the eager pupil...for her, anything involving food is good! Her biggest fault is she ignores us when we call her frequently and ALL of them are resisting learning the 'stay' command. But we go into our 2nd session of school tomorrow night, we're really not there yet...but that only shows they haven't been trained yet.

Bio:
Oni and Nanu look totally different but they are littermates and we know who their parents are and have pictures. Actually their parents just had another litter if you want a wolf hybrid puppy please contact me and I'll steer you in the right direction of the rescue folks. They try not to have puppies but I guess accidents happen. Oni and Shika don't look all that 'wolf-like' to most people but that doesn't mean that they don't have some of the personality, which mainly means they chew a lot of weird things and can be very shy, pacing when people come around unless you get them young and socialize them well (like Oni who loves everybody). There is a pretty tough application process you have to pass to adopt one of their new siblings but it's worth it if you have the fenced yard and love in your heart email me for wolf hybrid pup info or info on adopting loveable, sweet Oni.

Forums Motto:
"Got Food?"

I really like to jam my nose hard against you and then snuffle. Please don't be offended, it's just that I can't get close enough to you, I want you to grab me and hold me close against you when I do that. Will you?
