Arrival Story:
Bear had a bad start in life. Her exact age is unknown, but we believe her birth year to be 2002. She was found as a stray in KY, then dumped at a kill shelter and on death row when I discovered her photo in an 'Urgent Rescue' post on a German Shepherd website. After seeing her face, I just knew she was my girl! With support from her shelter, I picked up Bear in Ohio--a 9 1/2 hour round trip--and brought her home. Bear had been badly abused & neglected. She was utterly untrained, VERY sickly and 15+ pounds underweight when she first arrived to her "forever home" with me. She was also scared to death of my husband! Bear adjusted to living indoors with loving people, proper food, good health care, toys, friends, and training slowly but surely--chicken & cheese helped quite a lot along the way! ;) We celebrated Bear's One Year Anniversary with us on October 13, 2004. What a difference a year makes! Where once hesitant and afraid of me, she is now a Velcro Supreme--NEVER out of my sight! Previously terrified of new things and people, Bear now bounds out of the house in search of friends! Formerly underweight and sickly, Bear is now strong and beautiful. She's gone from not knowing what a toy was to routinely dumping out her toy basket and poking me with whichever one "we" are supposed to play with! And as far as her opinion of my husband.... suffice to say, Bear is now 'Daddy's Little Girl'. She loves that guy soooooo much that my husband has to ask her to leave him alone sometimes! I couldn't have found a more precious (and silly!) dog. :)
