He is a little vaccum! Favorite Walk: Washington Park Best Tricks: He will put his front paws up in the air and jump in circles if you yell "touchdown!" Arrival Story: Willie is a rescue dog from the Maxfund in Denver (maxfund.org). He was originally obtained by the Denver Muni shelter, we think as a stray, and transferred to Maxfund. He was at the Maxfund for six weeks when I went in to go see him. I saw his picture online and I immediately fell in love. The people at the shelter told me I was the first person to "show any interest" in Willie. When I went to the back to go see him, it was so sad because all of the other dogs would run to the front of their cages in excitement to see me and to get to go out. Little Willie just laid there like he was thinking "I know she isn't coming for me." But I was. He was covered in dirt, had heavily matted hair, and was all around grungy! Not the most attractive dog in the shelter by any stretch. But I took him for a little walk around the area and immediately fell in love with him; even though he rolled over on his back and peed on himself every time I tried to pet him. His little sad eyes told me that he just needed a little love.
He came home with me two days later after the shelter did all of its background checks. Willie was a very scared little guy at first. I think he may have been abused by some sort of male figure, as he has always been scared of men. It took him a full day to be okay with me approaching him. And it took two weeks for him to start coming up to me for attention. But now he is my little velcro-dog. He is always at my heels.
Since I adopted him, Willie has completed three differen obedience classes and has obtained his Canine Good Citizen Certificate. We are working together now to enroll him as a service dog to help children learn how to read. Bio: Willie loves running around the house with a fluffy in his mouth. He also adores chasing squirrels. Somehow he even managed to catch one once! (Don't worry, besides being scared out of its mind, the squirrel escaped unharmed). I've Been On Dogster Since:
