Arrival Story:
We bought Nick at a petstore - we think of it as a rescue, since he was the only animal in the store and looked so lonely, with a tug toy hanging out of his mouth. We had a chocolate lab - Nora and wanted a male. He was 3 mos old and we know he came from a mill - he's still very frightened of the dark and loud noises and he's almost 14 now. We're very concerned about him - he's getting so old and thin. It's very difficult to get him to eat (I think his sense of smell is going) and now he's having accidents in the house - which he never did before. We also have Myrna (see her post) and two cats - Dusty and Smoki - who were also adopted. But Nick is such a sweetheart!
Today is July 19, 2009. Nick went to doggy heaven yesterday. My heart is broken I miss his goofy face sooo much! It's so strange to just feed Myrna and not have to make her "leave it" when Nick would walk away from his food, because his hind legs hurt..Myrna was always ready to dive in and finish for Nick - so helpful :-P I spent the night laying next to him on the floor as all four legs just couldn't hold him up and he kept trying to stand - it was horrible to watch and when he'd look up at me with this confusion in his eyes, we knew it was time for the dreaded phone call to his vet. He closed his eyes for the final time at 10:18am, 8/18 - one month to the day after his 14th birthday....RIP Nick
