How to love your Hooman

Mary and her husband Jim had a dog named 'Lucky.' Lucky was a real character. Whenever Mary and Jim had company come for a weekend visit they would warn their friends to not leave their luggage open because Lucky would help himself to whatever struck his fancy. Inevitably, someone would forget and something would come up missing.

Mary or Jim would go to Lucky's toy box in the basement and there the treasure would be, amid all of Lucky's other favorite toys. Lucky always stashed his finds in his toy box and he was very particular that his toys stay in the box.

It happened that Mary found out she had breast cancer. Something told her she was going to die of this fact , she was just sure it was fatal.

She scheduled the double mastectomy, fear riding her shoulders. The night before she was to go to the hospital she cuddled with Lucky. A thought struck her...what would happen to Lucky? Although the three-year-old dog liked Jim, he was Mary's dog through and through. If I die, Lucky will be abandoned, Mary thought. He won't understand that I didn't want to leave him. The thought made her sadder than thinking of her own death.

The double mastectomy was harder on Mary than her doctors had anticipated and Mary was hospitalized for over two weeks. Jim took Lucky for his evening walk faithfully, but the little dog just drooped, whining and miserable.

Finally the day came for Mary to leave the hospital. When she arrived home, Mary was so exhausted she couldn't even make it up the steps to her bedroom. Jim made his wife comfortable on the couch and left her to nap. Lucky stood watching Mary but he didn't come to her when she called. It made Mary sad but sleep soon overcame her and she dozed.

When Mary woke for a second she couldn't understand what was wrong. She couldn't move her head and her body felt heavy and hot. But panic soon gave way to laughter when Mary realized the problem. She was covered, literally blanketed, with every treasure Lucky owned! While she had slept, the sorrowing dog had made trip after trip to the basement bringing his beloved mistress all his favorite things in life. He had covered her with his love.

Mary forgot about dying. Instead she and Lucky began living again, walking further and further together every day. It's been 12 years now and Mary is still cancer-free. Lucky? He still steals treasures and stashes them in his toy box but Mary remains his greatest treasure. every day to the fullest. Each minute is a blessing from God. And never forget....the people who make a difference in our lives are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards. They are the ones that care for us.

If you see someone without a smile today give them one of yours! Live simply. Love seriously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God.

Name four jobs you have:
1) Friend and Companion...Someone has to look after grandma.
2) Sweetie Pie...I spend a lot of time being cute.
3) Security Guard...I'm pretty sure this is the main reason for my existance. Anything that might hurt my hoomans, I bark until it goes away!
4)Nurse to Grandma...I always check her for little ouchies because she has very fragile skin.... then I "doctor" her ouchies by making sure they are kept clean!

Name four places where you have lived(or stayed at)
1) I don't remember the first place because I got lost or ran one really knows... but if you are interested you can read my arrival story.
2) Kansas.... I spent a few months at a rescue in Kansas... a real nice lady captured me from the farm I was hiding at and took me to safety.
3) Arvada, Colorado.... where my hooman sissy lives and where grandma lived when she adopted me... I liked it there a lot.
4) Ponca City, OK.... which is where the hoomans lived originally.... grandma decided to move back there and I of course had to go with!

Name 4 places that you have been:
1) Kansas
2) Colorado
3) Oklahoma
4) Where ever it was I got lost from.

Name 4 places you would rather be:
1) In the living room next to Grandma.
2) Curled up in bed with Grandma.
3) In the car when Grandma goes to Colorado.
4) Right where I am instead lost on a farm in Kansas!

I am NOT tagging anypups: But you can pretend I did and participate if you like to do these tag games.
1. ?
2. ?
3. ?
4. ?

Everyone (the hoomans that is) has been talking about the Easter Bunny and colored eggs and all kinds of strange stuff. When I was in Colorado (I'm in Okahoma now), we didn't do much of the Easter Bunny stuff, but it sounds like it might be fun. I can't wait to see what happens. Maybe I can steal some of those colored eggs. That seems like it might cause a little excitement. hehehehe

Did you see it, did you? I WON the Diary of the Day on the Dogster homepage today. I can't believe it! Bambi is running in circles and yipppeeeing.

Now that the celebration of my outstanding achievement has been done, it is on to the other things at hand...... We still have the Cowboy running everywhere, stealing toys, eating our food, grabbing our chewies. Well I must say that pain though he surely is, he is a cutie. My humans seem to like him, so I guess that means he is okay.

We have been getting that cold white stuff the humans call snow lately and it sure does not encourage a pup to go outside for ANYTHING! Maybe I should have stayed in Colorado..........hummmmmmm I mentioned it to mommie and she says there is a LOT more of that SNOW stuff out there, so I guess I did the right thing after all.

Well, gotta go find my toys, and chewies, and food, and Cowboy is behind their disappearance......

Woof, woof,

Did you see it, did you? My picture is on the Home Page of Dogster and I WON the award for Diary of the Day!!! I am so excited I am running around chasing my tail. Woo hoo. Thanks Dogster.

Oh now that I have had my joyous celebration for my great accomplishment, I guess I should tell you what is going on here. WOULD YOU BELIEVE that our humans brought home a puppy?????

Well, I have to tell you that I was shocked and Kandi was so mad at my human sister that she wouldn't talk to her for several days.

I have to admit that he is kinda cute and his name is Cowboy. That is a pretty exciting name. I hope he can live up to it. BOL!!

Oh and we have had that cold white stuff falling from the sky again. Maybe I should have stayed in Colorado ~ maybe NOT!!! They have more white stuff there than we do. I just heard from Ravan that she can't even go outside to do peepee some of the time.

Slurpee Kisses,

Well, Mom brought me to Oklahoma and I had to get used to being with Kandi, and now there is this little fellow they call Cowboy roaming around everywhere. He takes my food, he takes my toys, and he tries to take Mommie's attention too. I don't let him do that very much though. She is MY Mommie. humpf ~ why me?

In May, my mommie and me came to Oklahoma and my mommie decided we should stay out here. We are living in the house with my cousin Kandi. I like it here, but I miss my friends, Ravan and Sunny a lot. Mommie says we won't be going back to Denver though, so I guess I will only get to see them when they come out to visit.

Was that a bee? Oh I hope so! That means I won't have to get my feet washed every time I come back into the house!

I am back in Denver right now - we did another long bye bye and came home. I like all the new stuff in the back yard. It took me all afternoon to check it out when I got back.

I heard mommie and auntie talking about another long bye bye though, so I guess we are going to visit my other auntie soon! I like that because I get to see Kandi and play in her back yard! Ravan and Sunny are going with us on the long bye bye and it will be fun to have the four of us romping together.

WOW! I'm excited! Woof! Woof!

Visiting Out of Town

I've been away from home for a while on a visit with my cousin, Kandi, in Oklahoma. We eat, nap, play, eat, nap, play, eat, nap, play....... you know the routine. It is nice out here and there is a big backyard for us to run and romp in.

After Santa a little while...........I think we are going on a long bye-bye in the car. We will be going back to Denver where we live most of the time. I am anxious to see Ravan and Sunny and what my auntie has done to our backyard there....... she changes things a lot and plants trees and stuff.

Woof woof!
