Sun Sign: Quick Bio:
 Birthday: July 4th 2008
 Likes: Everything

Pet-Peeves: Nothing seems to get this girl down.

Favorite Toy: Whatever she can pick up, but things that squeak seem to be a big hit.

Favorite Food: Shelly is adjusting to The Honest Ktichen. She loves it!

Favorite Walk: Anywhere

Best Tricks: Shelly learned "sit" in less than a day (Rosie helped teach her). She also has the power to reclaim lost shoes from under the bed.

Arrival Story: In the wake of the passing of Isabel, The Greatest Dog That Ever Lived, we decided to set about finding a way to memorialize her. We went down to the shelter we adopted her from to talk about sponsoring a kennel in her memory, and starting a fund to help people pay for training classes since Isabel needed so much love and care to get over her separation anxiety. We had seen a picture of Shelly (then Ellie) and thought maybe we'd meet her. She was brought to the visitation room and it was like meeting Isabel all over again. Ellie was full of hugs, kisses, and smiles. When she doggedly refused to leave the visitation room (she had to be carried out by her handler) we knew she had chosen us to be her new family. She passed her feline tolerance test so the only obstacle to adopting her was Rosie's approval. If she didn't like Ellie all bets were off. We brought the Spreadles to the shelter the next day. They hit it off right away, just like Isabel and Rosie did four short years ago. We knew Isabel's paw was behind all of this. Rosie was starting to become depressed without her sister around, and our home seemed rather lifeless without Isabel's exuberance and loving ways. It all just fell into place. When Shelly came home for the first time, after a nice walk with Rosie around the park and a fun car ride, the two of them had an extended play session. Rosie put her to the test with a full on game of ring around the hedges. Shelly's not as fast as Rosie yet, but they still had a great time. There was a special bond between Isabel and Rosie that no dog could replace. But Rosie is getting to be the mentor to Shelly that Isabel was to Rosie. Though taking on raising a 6 month old puppy is not an easy task, Rosie is up to the challenge, and seems to enjoy keeping Shelly in line, as well as taking her toys. We are so happy she chose us. We didn't think we'd get picked so soon, but I think the Cosmic Shellies helped make it happen.

Bio: Shelly gets her name from Isabel's most popular nickname: The Shellies. I now think of Isabel as the Cosmic Shellies, our guardian who is always with us wherever we go. It was only appropriate to rename Ellie after the Shellies who clearly has the same spark and zest for life that Isabel had. No dog will ever replace The Shellies, but Shelly carries her spirit in her smile, her kisses, and her joy.

Forums Motto: So many cookies, so little time.

I past my final exam and got my diploma from puppy school. I now have a barkalaureate in doggy disciplinary arts like Rosie. She came to watch me take my test. I did really good. My birthday was awesome. I got cake and a 1/2 hamburger from the grill. We finished the cake off tonight. I'm awesome!

I am one year old today! Well, sometime in July so what better day to have a birthday than July 4th? Yesterday we drove to the doggy bakery and got my cake and ice cream. And then I found out that I'm getting a real hamburger.
I'm also graduating from puppy school tomorrow with my barkalaureate in doggy disciplinary arts. Rosie says this is a big deal, but that the hamburger is a bigger deal. She asked dad why she never got a hamburger on her birthday. He said she was getting a burger too, and that he would make her burgers on her birthday too. Apparently all is forgiven.
So I'm getting ready for my little party. Dad says you only turn 1 once so I should enjoy it. I think I will.

Well, I've been in my new home for close to four months now. I'm still trying to get used to it. I'm what Dad calls the most difficult puppy phase: crazy, undisciplined, and chewy. I like to chew stuff. I try to stick to my toys, but sometimes the call of the quilt, shoes, tissues, mail, paper towels, the cats...it's all too much and sometimes I let myself go.
Mama couldn't take it any more and said I have to go to school. I started last week. I was VERY nervous and tried to jump in Mama's lap, hid under her stool, and had my tail between my legs most of the time. I haven't gone anywhere without Rosie really so I was a little scared without her there to protect me. But I did all my stuff and was very well behaved. Dad says I'm very food motorated. I don't know what that means, or if I said it right, but if it involves me getting food I'm there. Rosie says that I don't have to do anything unless there's food involved.
I got my first manicure last week too, which Dad is glad about because Rosie won't let anyone touch her feet.
This week I've got my first real vet appointment too. Rosie's coming too, YAY!
Dad says he still misses Isabel. I try to cheer him up when he's sad and sleep behind him on the pillows when I get to sleep out of my crate.
Yeah, life is pretty sweet here. I wish Isabel was still here though. She sounds like a great dog, but Dad says I'm great too. I agree!
