Dogster stats for April (In loving memory)
'Pril, April May
She loved to be around people.
She really didn't have any. She was pretty easy going. Ok, she didn't like having her nails clipped!
She liked to play with balls, but not too many other toys.
Peanut butter and beer (I know, it was bad for her... we didn't give her too much. Just a lick or two - it made her sneeze! EVERYTIME!)
She loved to walk in my garden. Not just around it, but literally in it... in all the plants and flower beds!
The usual: Sit, beg, lay down, gimme paw.
We got April in May of 1983, when my daughter was 2 1/2 years old. I wanted to get a dog for her. We lived in a really small town, and the local pet store only "sold" rescues. (The cost was enough to pay for shots and spaying, etc.) The day we went, there were only two puppies. One was a scottie, and the other, a beagle/border collie mix. I was leaning toward the scottie, but he seemed so docile, and with not much energy. The beagle mix however, seemed so full of life and excited to see people. My daughter really wanted her. So you know how it goes... the kids win out! So the beagle mix was to be our puppy. While there we found out that the pup was born on April 1, 1983. So, in my usual "talk in a funny voice" to the animals, I was saying to the pup, "Oh, you're an April puppy. You were born in April". My daughter thought that was the dog's name, April. But it sort of just stuck! Even though I got the dog for my daughter, April was clearly my dog from the beginning. She brought so much joy into our lives.
April passed in October of 1998, after being with us for 15 wonderful years. We never could keep her out of my garden in life, so we buried her there so she could be in a place she loved. She will always be missed.
