Arrival Story:
Hello world! My Name is Preston and I’m a west Highland Terrier (A westie) and welcome to my very own website- Prestonspeaks.com. My official AKC name is Sir. Preston Peabody but I only am called that when I’m in really big trouble with my mommy and daddy. I am a three and half years old and I live in Western Kentucky. I have three brothers and sisters who are cats but they aren’t very friendly to me sometimes. Mommy says I’m too jumpy and they don’t like to play the same way I do. I also have a westie brother named Elvis..we aren't getting along to great right now but don't tell him..I do like him! You might think dogs don’t have jobs but I do and take my work as seriously as I take chewing my chew bones. I am a model and do some work for a local photographer who takes photos to submit to the pet calendars. So far I have made it into five westie calenders! I also enter photo contests and won the cuddle moments Nestlé’s holiday photo contest. You may ask how do I spend my money? I am a saver and don’t blow it all in the toy and treat isle at the pet store. I am saving for a fence for my backyard so I can run and play and invite my doggie friends over. I also spend a lot of time online on my facebook and dogster account and now at prestonspeaks.com I would one day like to be a big time model and maybe be in a movie or two but mommy says that’s a long shot. I hope you enjoy my profile and please e-mail me any time at preston (at) prestonspeaks (dot) com. I love getting e-mail!

I am one busy dog so I don't have time to write an entry every day because I'm trying to keep up with my blog. but I thought maybe I could cut and paste some of my favorite parts of my blog and facebook posts..you know where I'm being clever, cute, brilliant, etc. hehehehe.

Here is my post where i just had it with some humans! You know a dog has to get stuff of his chest sometimes!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~
“an attitude of superiority manifested in an overbearing manner or in presumptuous claims or assumptions “
Hi pals! Today I’m going to branch off from my happy go lucky posts about my adventures or the cool toy I tested to try to knock some sense into you humans. I am no puppy and have been around the animal world for some time now. I have noticed one HUGE fault in you humans..arrogance! Don’t get me wrong..there are many humble animal people who are in it for the right reasons and then there are those individuals who think their poop don’t stink (trust me it does..I have a very good nose). They also think they are just superior to everyone else. So I thought I would list some of the types of arrogant people I see
-Arrogant Groomers – “Oh I know how to do a Westie cut, I’m the best! I won’t look at the photos mom left to give me guidance on what she wants, etc.” Then I have to wear sweaters for 2 WHOLE months because you messed up my hair so much!
-Arrogant Puppy Mill Owners — “Yes five employees for 1000 animals is plenty, I don’t need to correct any of the violations I have because I know what is best for my animals!” – I’m not even going to go there…you have read my posts and know what I think of puppy mill owners…growl!
-Arrogant Animal Bloggers – “ I’m all knowing about everything in my animal topic of choice. I must educate the world because only my opinion matters and everyone else just is beneath me!” –come on you’re not the best thing since dog treats…get over yourself!
-Arrogant Trainers – “I invented sit! I can fix ANY dog. I will never admit that I may be way out of my league with a difficult dog and that I’m doing more harm than good! ” – Trust me honey you ain’t no Victoria Stilwell — I know I have met her! (not to mention she is one of the most humble people I have met!)
–Arrogant Self Promoters “ Sure I’ll raise money, help the organization, etc. but only if it benefits me and I get complete say in how the money is spent!” Don’t offer to help with tons of strings attached or if you don’t get your way completely..say I’m taking my chew sticks and going home!
–Arrogant Trolls – “I must disrupt facebook pages and websites to get my often jaded and misinformed opinion across” – Really, really— do you think your best use of your time is to post pointless comments, rants, and false information about organizations, companies, causes, etc on someone else site? Just think of it if all that time and energy was used to actually make a difference in what you claim to be passionate about instead of siting and stewing at your keyboard cut and pasting. And don’t get me started on how ticked off if they become finally get blocked because they can’t follow the rules.
Arrogance is not a trait found in dogs. Yes some of you humans thinks certain breeds are arrogant such as a poodle but trust me I have a good friend name Carma who is one of the most humble dogs I have ever met. You would also think that the dogs in the show world are arrogant too (well they are as perfect as a dog can get). Now I can’t say that all the trainers, owners, breeders, aren’t arrogant (I have seen the movie Best in Show BOL!) But the dogs are very down to earth! When they are not “working” in the show rink they are chewing up shoes, rolling in mud, and playing fetch! So I take personal offense when someone is called an arrogant “B***ch” Don’t degrade the female dogs like that! They are much, much better than an arrogant female!
So in this little dog’s opinion arrogance is the weakness of the animal world. I get to meet alot of great humble people every day as in my role as a spoke dog of the local humane society and in westie rescue and I have also seen the arrogant ones come and go. But what I know is the ones who truly make a difference in the life of my dog and cat pals are there for the right reasons and not for themselves.
And that wraps up today’s lesson in Arrogance brought to you by the letter P for Prestonspeaks!
Home 4 the Holiday Program
Can you believe the holidays are quickly approaching? Well, with the holidays comes a great program I’m passionate about (and yes dogs can be passionate..have you ever seen us when we get our favorite treat!) the Iams Home 4 the holidays program! TODAY kicks off the 13th annual pet adoption drive. And I’m one of the blog hops co-hosts to promote this wonderful program!
But first you may be thinking what is the Iams Home 4 the Holiday? This is one of the world’s largest pet adoption programs. The program runs from October 1st though January 3rd and the goal is to find 1.5 million orphaned pets adopted in the the US and even the world. Over the past 12 years they have help adopt out over 5.8 million pets into loving homes (how awesome is that!) Iams and the Helen Woodward Animal Center (one of the most amazing forward thinking animal centers) is teaming up with more than 3,500 animal organizations to encourage pet adoption (my personal favorite ..Owensboro Humane Society is participating as well). Iams is also donating 5 million meals to animals in need waiting while they are waiting for their forever homes! So go over to my website (prestonspeaks.com) and see what you can do by just liking some pages on facebook to donate food to area shelter or make cute free Christmas cards of us--(who else would you put on your cards?!?!)
I got to go a baseball game this summer!
Hi Pals, I had a neat experience recently. Elvis and I went to our first minor league baseball game. It was dog days at the park at the Bowling Green (Kentucky) Hot Rods minor league baseball team. Bowling Green is about an hour away from my house so on Sunday afternoon we loaded up in the car with our mom and dad and headed out. I was so excited!.I got to spend all day with my parents and we weren’t just invited we were the guest of honor (well with all the other dogs) at the game. As soon as we pulled up in the parking lot I saw dogs of all different sizes and shapes with their pet parents. They even had a full agility course set up for us to try. I was all over that course like a flea to a dog. I have my own course (ok I know I’m spoiled hehehe). But mine is made out of PVC pipe and this course was the good stuff..wood. There was an A-frame, two tunnels, some jumps, a see-saw and a dog walk. The first time I went though it I did ok and just kinda walked/trotted though it. I had to learn the lay of the land. But the second time I was amazing if I do say so myself hehehe. I raced through that course and set a record time for the whole city of Bowling Green…ok well maybe not but I did show people that westies can jump!
Well, then it was time for Elvis to try..all I can say is poor Elvis. He just isn’t an agility dog. He tried really hard but the only way he would go up and down the A-frame was if there was a treat on each step. Forget the jumps he went under them. And when he got up on the dog walk (bridge) he just froze and wouldn’tmove forward or backwards. I ended up going up on it to save the day and he followed me off. Needless to say the rents didn’t make him go through the course again. But here are some photos of Elvis trying agility.
It was almost time for the game to start so we entered the stadium and they had another surprise for us dogs..bags of dog treats from Hills! Not just one bag but as we walked to our seat people just kept giving us bags of treats..we got 10 bags total..that was 9 bags for me and one for Elvis! I admit I got a little bored after a couple of innings but Elvis loved the game. He sat on mom’s lap and watched the ball the whole time. I guess being a puppy mill dog and never been on the “outside” the whole concept of humans chasing a ball just fascinated him.
But Elvis being the playboy he is took the opportunity to hit on one of mom’s friends Cathy. She sat in the seat in front of him and he made a move and put his paw on her shoulder. That just caused her to melt and I think by the end of the game she had “puppy dog’ eyes for Elvis!
In the end the Hot Rods won! We were glad but personally if dogs were out there playing instead of humans it wouldn’t have taken us hours to catch the baseball!
Overall we had a lot of fun and we hope the rents will take us to another game soon.
