A Disappointment

I didn't pass my therapy pet test. I was doing very well until the last part of the test. I had to go into a room where the people were making loud noises, dropping things, running around etc. It was just too much stimulation. I froze from stress and statued. After that I wouldn't go back into the room. Mom was a bit upset because she used to work in a nursing home and I have been to the nursing home many times to visit grandpa. Nursing homes are always pretty quiet. There may be an occasional dropped pan or crying patient, but it is not chaotic. Mom didn't think the test was fair. Anyway, I won't be testing again. I am a sensitive dog by nature and mom and dad both don't think it is fair to me to put me through that again. I will just do meet and greets and represent the greyhound breed in other ways. Mom and dad are VERY proud of me. Especially considering how far I have come over the past 5 1/2 years. I did very well on all other parts of the test so mom said I did very well.

Greyhound Friends International Day!

Yesterday was Greyhound Friend's International Day. It was an all day event so we had to leave the house early. They had speakers from all over the world to discuss greyhound issues. Some of the speakers were from Argentina, Spain, Ireland and of course the United States. Dr. Couto came! He is the world's leading expert on greyhound physiology. I got to meet him. He even petted me! What a thrill. Mom talked to him about the new vaccine coming out for osteosarcoma. Right now the vaccine is being used in dogs that already have the disease. It isn't a preventative yet. Dr. Couto said they think they have found the gene that causes it, so a cure might be coming soon. I hope so. Many of my friends were there- Johnny B, Cella, Thor, Teddy, Ripley and my half brother, Padfoot. Padfoot had a new brother! He is a brindle Galgo (Spanish Greyhound). It was a nice day. It was cloudy but that was good as it kept it cooler. We were under a tent anyway. I didn't want to leave when it was over.

I Was In The Paper!

My picture was on the front page of our local paper last week. The paper is called the Beacon-Villager. We are a very small town and not much happens. Still it is quite the honor to be on the front page. I was in a costume parade at the Farmer's Market a couple of weeks back. They took my picture! Here is the link if you would like to see it:

I got a bath today! Daddy worked only a half day. Then he drove us to Dirty Hairy's Dog Wash. I had to have a bath and nail trim because on Sunday I have my pet therapy testing. I smell like peppermint! I am a bit nervous about the test. Wish me luck!

Good news! Mom just heard from Pets and People foundation. They are the ones that are going to test me to become a therapy pet. They had some cancellations so I can get tested soon. The test will be July 20th and close to our house! Wish me luck!

This past weekend was a bit crazy. Our neighbors moved on July 5th and left their cat behind. He was so sad and crying all the time. He was clearly in distress. Mom thought that maybe his parents would return for him as they left food, water and his litter box outside. By the end of Sunday he was still there. Two people were cleaning the apartment. The woman came outside so daddy asked about the cat. His name was Gumba and his family couldn't take him. Gumba's mom had to move in with her parents and her father was allergic to cats. The woman said she was trying to find a home for him. Mom said she would help too. Mom posted it on Facebook and it went viral! Gumba became a Facebook celebrity overnight! He had 1,000 shares! Mom was getting so many calls, e-mails and messages that she couldn't think straight. She finally contacted a rescuer who came on Monday night to get Gumba. Mom was able to lure him into our house with a can of salmon cat food. Mom put me in the weight room because Gumba was a bit afraid of me. Gumba is now at a no-kill, no-cage shelter. They have received 5 adoption applications for him already! A woman called today and said her daughter wanted to adopt him. Mom told her to have her daughter fill out an application with the shelter and she said she would! A man knocked on our door today and wanted to give mom money for cat food to help Gumba! Mom thanked the man and suggested that he make a donation to the shelter. He said he would. I guess this sows the power of social media! Wow!

What a fun day today! Mom, dad and I went to visit My friends Thor, Teddy, Ripley and their mom and dad this afternoon. Riley and his dad were there too and I got to meet a new friend named Ginger. Ginger wasn't a greyhound but she was very nice. We got to play in the back yard. We had so much fun!! Teddy tried to get fresh with me but I let him know that I wasn't that kind of girl. I think he likes me a lot. I like him too, but only as a friend. Some other people came too that I didn't know. They were all very nice. I make friends easily. There was a little boy who came. I did very well with him. I wasn't afraid! Mom was very proud of me because I am usually afraid of children. I got to play in the swimming pools too. They had 2 of them! I only have 1 pool but I am an only dog so I guess I really only need one!! It was a beautiful day! I hope we can go back and visit again sometime.

I hope everyone had a happy and safe 4th of July! It was very rainy here today. Mom and dad had hoped for good weather so all the guests could be out in the back yard. Daddy was going to grill and mom wanted to play croquet and lawn darts. Hurricane Arthur had other ideas. About 20 people came. We all had to stay indoors but everyone still had a good time. Later my friend, Rosco came with his mom. I was happy to have him here. It is nice when there is another dog around. I got lots and lots of attention. I also got veggie hot dogs for dinner. One even had a bun with it. I like bread a lot. Mom says once in a while it is OK. The neighbors just shot off some fireworks. I know that scares a lot of dogs. I don't like the noise, but I am not afraid of it either.

I am honored once again to be a daily diary pick. Thank you Dogster.

What an adventure I had this morning!! Mom and dad took me to the Greyhound Adventures walk. We started the walk at Wellesley College and walked around Lake Waban. It was such a beautiful day. We walked through marshes and forests and fields! Most of the walk was around the lake. There were a few places where we could all go in and take a dip to cool off. It was one of the most beautiful walks I have ever been on. We did encounter a loose dog but thankfully one of the walk leaders was able to call his humans and he was returned safely. It was a long walk. I was tired but really had a lot of fun. SO many of my friends came- Lux, Mr. Spock, Thor, Teddy and Ripley and Ozzie. After the walk we went to Pet World which is a really cool pet store in Natick. Mom bought me some yummy dog food, cat food and some treats. I got a cookie shaped like a fried egg (Just like Hanks from Galgos del Sol´╗┐) Of course I ate it!! Later mom bought me a frame for my certificate that I got at Greyhound Friends. Now I just have to get daddy to hang it for me on my wall. The other really cool thing that happened today was that I was selected as a daily diary pick on Dogster. That means my diary is being featured today!

Costume Parade!

Today was the first day of the Maynard Farmer's Market. You can imagine my surprise when mom started dressing me in one of my costumes! They had a costume parade! It was for anyone who wanted to dress up. Mostly it was children, but there were adults to. I was the only dressed up dog although they did say dogs were welcome. We got there just as they were headed out of the parking lot, so we jumped into line. We walked through town, down to the park and then back again. Everyone was taking my picture, pointing and looking at me! I felt famous!! A few people even called my name!!! A newspaper reporter came up to daddy and asked for my name and daddy's name. We might be in the paper! You never know!!! Wouldn't that be something!! It was hot at the Farmer's Market and I was panting quite a bit. Mom suggested that daddy take me to the pond to dip my paw pads. I ended up going right into the pond up to chest! The water felt so good!! It was too deep to lie down in so I stood there for about 5 minutes to cool down. That felt SO good. Later mom and dad went for the orientation for me to become a therapy pet. I couldn't go- only mom and dad. Next we have to schedule my test. I am not sure yet when that will be. The test we wanted to do is full. Mom wrote and asked them if they could still squeeze me in. If not I may have to wait until a future date. We shall have to wait and see.

I Got A Certificate!

Friday was a sad day. My Facebook friend, Gordon, made his journey to the Rainbow Bridge. He was 13 years old and had bad arthritis in his spine and hips and also had a muscular atrophy disease. He was in a lot of pain and although he fought it for a very long time, he finally told his mom that he had enough and was ready to make his journey into spirit. He always had a smile on his face and he loved to wear hats! We live about 90 minutes away from him and daddy had said that maybe this summer we would take a road trip to meet him. Now we won't be able to. Run Free at the bridge Gordon!

Sunday was a wonderful day. Mom, dad and I went to Greyhound Friend's volunteer picnic this afternoon. They gave me a certificate thanking me for being a great canine ambassador!! Wow!! I am SO honored! Mom says she will buy a frame for it so I can hang it on my wall. I also got to see a lot my best friends- Thor, Teddy, Ripley and my brother, Fast. Johnny B and Cella didn't come with their mom. I was hoping to see them too. Mom and dad got certificates too. That was so nice of Greyhound Friends to do that.Mom and dad also got a $25 gift certificate to spend in the store. Mom got a T-shirt and a stuffed greyhound. Daddy got a vest and I got cookies!!!!

Exciting News!

HI everybody. I have some exciting news! I may become a therapy dog! Mom and dad are looking into it right now. They have to go to an orientation in 2 weeks and then I get tested. I really miss not going to the nursing home now that grandpa is gone. I used to love being around the residents and making them happy. I am not scared of wheelchairs, walkers or oxygen machines either. Please wish me luck that my dream comes true.

BOL, BOL. I wish I had had a camera. Mom and and dad emptied my pool because it was getting a bit dirty. Mom went to refill the pool and when she turned on the water to the hose, she hit the connector piece and it fell off. Water was flying every where. Mom got soaking wet! She screamed and jumped about 5 feet. She yelled to daddy but he couldn't get to the turn off faucet because he was blocked by a wall of water!! Mom had to climb over the basement bulkhead to turn it off. Mom caught me laughing at her. I did a few zoomies around the yard, laughing the whole time. She finally did get my pool filled again and I went right in it.
