Arrival Story:
Driving along a small highway in Arkansas there was a small house up on a hill. I was told they were bulldog breeders and stopped. The people only sold to a broker, but Bubba was left behind because he had a heart murmur. He was an adorable little boy. About 8 lbs is all. I went to Arkansas to visit family. I had no intention of getting a dog. I guess it was just fate. On the way back to Kansas I stopped for a stuffed animal and blue receiving blanket and picked up my little boy. Not even an hour into the 8 hr drive back to KS, we hit a bad storms. Took cover from hail in a parking garage in Fort Smith, AR. Back on the road an hour later we ran right into a tornado. Had to pull off the highway and take shelter near a gas station. Daylight suddenly turned to darkness as the debris filled the air all around. We could've tried to make it on the inside of the store, but I didn't want to risk getting out with him. During one of the scariest times of my life, I look down and there was my little angel, passed out and snoring as if he hadn't a care in the world. My motherly instinct was strong from that moment on. I wouldn't leave my little baby. Months later our bond grew even stronger when a close elderly friend had a stoke and died. Bubba laid in the bed with me and licked my tears away. Then he would just rest his little face on mine and comfort me. Before my friend's passing, I would take Bubba to visit him at the nursing home. He brought a smile to so many people there. Then not even a year after my friend's passing, I got the most unexpected news that my 20 yr old baby brother had died. I can credit my attachment for Bubba that pulled me thru that horrible time. As depressed as I was, I really wanted to die so I could be with my brother again. But, Bubba needed me. I couldn't let the depression get ahold of me. I couldn't and wouldn't leave my Bubba. As years have passed and Bubba is about to turn 5, we have been thru alot. Some bad and some good. But I have him laying next to me as I am writing this and am so thankful that I do.
