Arrival Story:
Ruby was abused by her former owner. One day, she showed up on my friend's front lawn, and he took her in. He searched for her owner with posters & calling shelters, but no one claimed her. After spending some time with her, it was clear that she'd been very mistreated. She was a submissive, browbeaten dog that would cower at the slightest hand, touch, or look. She was frightened especially of people, but was the gentlest soul you could imagine. Unfortunately, his mother wouldn't allow big dogs inside, so she lived in the backyard for 6 years of her life. Everytime I went over there, I vowed to her that I'd bring her indoors into my home, as soon as that happened. He took good care of her, but it broke my heart to see her sleeping outside in the winter (its California but still chilly), b/c she wanted to see her family through the window. They would open the garage area and even gave her a nice bed, but it took many years for her to use that area at all. After I met my DH and we bought a house, I finally was able to keep my promise to her. She is the sweetest, gentlest dog I have ever known. She is so mellow, and never bothers the cats. She is great with puppies too, and keeps Bella's ADD tendencies at bay. They love to frisk around the house, and frolic together. She loves to be loved, and adjusted to an indoor home (and our 3 furbies, 2 of which are cats) without a hitch. We love her dearly, and though she is older (about 10 years old), she is cherished and loved every single day...
