Update on earthquake

Hello my friends,
Just a quick note to let you all know that at least this doggie is working hard after the big earthquake we had.
Today I went to Kaiapoi with mum (Kaiapoi was hit really bad in the earthquake many people and pets have lost their homes)anyway we went out and walked for hours putting important information into mail boxes so people know whats going on in their neighbourhood and with their town. I saw other doggies behind their fences and they all barked at me to say hello, I tried really hard to chase the cats I saw, but mum wouldnt let me:(. When we had finished for today mum took me back to where we started and guess what!!!! they were cooking sausages on the bbq for the volunteers and Im a volunteer I helped and a really nice man who just fell in love with me (its not hard to do) he went out and got me a sausage!!! Other people were waiting in line for their one but I jumped the que..hehe well the guy who gave me it did. When I was leaving all these nice young people had to stop and give me pats becuase Im so nice to pat. I got given bottled water to drink because the water in Kaiapoi is filled with all kinds of really nasty bugs right now and not safe for people or pets to drink.
On Wednesday we are going to go back and help out again and mum put my name down if any people need to have a comforting cuddle from me to make them feel better, especially old people who are a bit scared because Im very good at cuddles. Everyone who met me said I was so good coming to help other people and they all patted me; so there are many people in Kaiapoi feeling better today because of me.
Better go and rest me toes they walked many kilometres today.

Earthquake!!

Heloo my furry friends,
I must warn you about what happened to us..
On Saturday morning very early on 04-09-2010, before the birds were up so thats very early, we were all asleep and I woke to this frightening loud sound, then the house started shaking really BAD. Mum said I must have levitated out of my bed and right up to the top of hers while the house shook and shook. It made such frightful sounds and was swaying and stuff was falling onto the floor from the shelves it sounded like a train was right out there on the deck! Mum and dad held me and because they stayed calm I didnt get too frightened, they said they should get to a door but the shaking was so bad they knew they would not make it so we decided if we are going to die we all go together in bed.
When the shaking finally stopped we all walked very carefully up stairs, it was so dark there were no lights anywhere but mum started lightning candles and we all checked that everyone else was ok, Storm was so quite in his crate I think he must have either slept through it or was just too scared to make a noise. But hes is fine and had breakfast so he wasnt shaken too bad. Mum did a role call to check on all the other pups who were not home and they all called back to say they scared but ok. Dad found the camping equipment and they got a kettle of water boiled for calming cups of tea, then mum went to the car to listen to the 5am news to find out how bad the shaking had been. Its bad friends, houses and buildings have just fallen down, pooh came out of the ground so doggies like me cant walk anywhere near where the pooh came up or we could get sick. Mum ran to the older neighbour to check that they were all ok and took them a flask of hot water so they could have a nice cup of tea too. The people in front of us came over because they were scared too so dad made coffee for them and told them to stay till they felt better. Storm and I did our best to make everyone feel better giving out cuddles where needed. I gave out lots of cuddles and am still giving them to mum and dad when the house shakes again. I understand the shaking is called an earthquake and our one was 7.1 which is very big like the one that Haiti had but no one died which is so very lucky.Mum was busy at work on Sunday ( I was not happy she left me) they have cats rescued from the earthquake bought to them to look after as their owners houses fell down and they have no home!!!
Mum said some of the dogs at work are very nervous and are most happy in their kennels where they feel safe. But mum has been giving them lots of cuddles, I know as I can smell them on her when she gets home. Wevhad a few refugees staying with us as they had no where to go with no water or power, so they came here and camped out, Nikki is still here as she had no water but its back on, now I just have to work out how to get her to go back to her home because she takes mum away from ME!
I tell you my friends I never want to go through that again not in my lifetime it scared a few years out of me and the house still shakes every day and I run to mum or dad for a pat just to know where they are.
I know there are a lot of lost pets scared and not knowing how to get home so if any of you see lost pets please contact the SPCA so they can help find the owners, I know how much my friends want to help so keep a look out for lost friends and lets help them find their owners so they can have cuddles too.

Schicksal is me!!

Hello all my doggie friends,
I have exciting news, my mum applied for a kennel name for me so when I have babies they are under my kennel name.
My kennel is called Schicksal which is German for Fate; is that cool or what??
Last weekend I attended the CKY Benefit show and on Sunday mum took me into the ring and I got first place intermediate bitch, on Saturday I had a YKC handler and got 2nd, Storm entered his first ever show.. it was funny. He got baby boy puppy of border collies and was beaten on Sunday by his sister for puppy of group. He has much to learn about the show ring but I think he had fun for his first show and thats all that matters. Poor Storm he just jumped around the ring and has no idea how to behave but believe me I told him to learn his manners and mum and Des will be doing some show training, unfortunately Storm likes to show he knows how to sit at the most inappropriate times (like when the judge was checking him over) as I said much to learn...
But he is very faithful to mum and he has caused a few temper tantrums from moi. He feels he has the right to sit on my mums foot and thats my place to sit if I want to, he has to learn Im the boss always!!
Oh have I been busy getting really really fit for the national show in 2 months, OMG 2 months and Im going to my first ever German Shepherd National and my Tony from Aus is coming over to run me (he likes me), Mum discovered yesterday that all the running she has had me doing on the treadmill is working, we went out for our usual 1 hour run...mum walks. But at the end of an hour I was not even puffing and my tongue was still in my mouth not dragging on the ground. Mum makes me run 5km at speeds of 6kmh to 10.5kmh with the incline up to 10 any higher and I loose my grip on the mat and start sliding off the back.The fastest I have run on the treadmill was for 10 minutes at 12.5!! Man I was running really fast that time, its great we just program a 5 km run and mum stands with me between her legs so if I loose my balance she can catch me and she balances on the edge of the treadmill holding me on a short leash, no leash no CC willingly getting on to run anywhere...hahaha
I have a sneaky suspicion that mum is going to make me run for longer times, but thats ok Im strong and she would never make me exercise too much, but she does split my exercise so I do some free running at the park in the morning, then some leash work then later in the afternoon she checks there are no cats in the garage and we hit the treadmill.
I do wonder if any other dogs use a treadmill for people; to get exercise or is it just me?
Anyway better go busy busy busy

Getting along

Hello my friends,
I am happy to say that Storm and I are getting along just fine now he is not so sick. Mum was worried that Storm wasn't well and took him to his first visit to Kerstin my vet on Tuesday I didn't get to go and stayed home with the girls. Storm was constantly having to be taken out side for toilet like every hour, poor wee boy; so mum got a poo sample and took it to the vet with Storm. It seems that the poor wee fella came to us sick and was diagnosed with Giardia so he has had stuff to be squirted down his throat and antibiotics. He is a whole lot happier and getting playful. Unfortunately mum also has the same thing as puppy, got it working in the kennels, now mum is getting better taking lots of pills and not feeling sick all the time. So hopefully mum and me can go for big walks next week. Mum did take me to the rabbit paddock last week and OH BOY there are baby bunnies everywhere I was so busy sniffing that for the first time ever I didn't hear mum whistle for me and she had to come find me.
Mum and Dad went out today and left me and Storm alone; though Storm was in the new puppy run (something about keeping us separated while they were not around to supervise) well I just ran around outside the run barking at him to come and play, hahaha he did get a bit frustrated but when they got home with the food mum came and bought us both back inside. It was a beautiful day to be outside and I really enjoyed the nice warmish wind not the nasty bitter south wind we had recently that even makes me cold. Although snow would be great to play in.
Mum says that Storm will not be coming on my big walks for a long time, he has to grow a lot more and be older before he can come. But I'm sure he can come sometime and have a wee run around the rugby paddocks?
I have tried to teach Storm to chase me as Storm Chaser IS his name but every time we start the chase game I end up lapping him coz he has little legs and cant keep up... oh I cant wait for him to grow.
Well better go and watch to make sure mum takes ALL her medication, we are all a bit tired as Storm seems to wake up at 5 am.... yes 5am on Saturday!!!! Hes sleeping in a wee crate in the kitchen and to be honest he is a lot quieter at bed time now; not crying much just wee ones to see if someone will come. (we don't coz he has to learn) Then this morning very early 6 am he escaped from dad and came running to mums room trying to get mum to put him on the bed with her and me, needless to say she didn't and we shut him out of the room so we could have a wee snooze. Mum and Des are thinking of entering him in his first show at the end of august and Im going too.
Now I really do have to go or mum will forget the pills..

Oh no a puppy arrived

Hello my friends,
I have been extra busy recently. I hurt my leg and was crated for 5 weeks!! Then mum and me had only 10 days to get ready for the triple show which was last weekend. I was not in great show shape but went out and tried my best,on Saturday I got 4th but still got a ribbon and excellence medal, on Sunday I went 2nd another ribbon and excellence and on Monday I went 3rd another ribbon and excellence medal. That's 6 excellences since I became an intermediate girl!!! Then on Wednesday mum had to do the evening work feeding all the kennel dogs, she is only away from me for a couple of hours BUT she bought home a PUPPY!!!! A smelly,dirty wee puppy a border collie and she said he is mine to learn to love and play with. Well I tell you he aint much to play with at this moment in time, every time I do my impressive drop onto my front legs and jump up again fast, meaning I want to play he yips and hides from me...Im not that scary am I? I did gently push him away from the fire before he got burnt...silly pup never seen a fire before. I am getting used to him constantly following me everywhere, wanting to lick me, wanting to play with MY squeaky toys (NOT ALLOWED!!!)he can have any toy I don't play with that doesn't squeak that's my final offer! I have given a few impressive growls at him for getting to close to MY food, a good one this morning trying to scare him away from his food, (didn't work mum put him and the food in his wee crate) but all in all he is not too bad he kind of just sleeps, pees, poohs and eats; all the people give him cuddles but mum always cuddles ME first and Storm pup is not allowed to sleep in our bedroom he has to stay in the crate in the kitchen. He's such a noisy puppy on the first night he came he didn't stop howling, growling, crying etc for over an hour after we went to bed finally I had enough and went down the hall and gave 3 very loud barks at him telling him its bed time and shut up!...silence from Storm he got my meaning...until around 3am when he started again mum put a pillow over her head and I just ignored him, last night he cried again; gee I hope he get used to being alone soon we are all getting tired and mum even gave him my purple blanket to make him feel better, I had to use my wolf blanket. Still its a very nice wolf blanket and mum bought it for me new just for me she said. Mum told me the puppy is named Storm Chaser and he will chase me around the yard when he gets bigger, right now I run as fast as I can showing off and he cant keep up with me even if I run slow, wonder when he will be big enough to chase me? It might be fun. Tony came to visit me last night, never mind he was bringing their kitten Scoobie back for a few days holiday while they are away he came to see me! though he did have a look at out new mutt (that's what he calls the border collie)a mutt hehehe. Im not a mutt and I think Tony knows that Storm is a pedigree like me but he's not a shepherd so he is a mutt..oh that's soooo funny Desiree would have a fit to hear her puppy called a mutt. Tony said he actually liked him even though he's a mutt...lol
Well my friends I really better go and see what the 'mutt' is doing....he may need to go outside for toilet as he's not allowed to use the carpet as a litter box no no no!!! Not allowed. So I keep an eye on him.

So long since I wrote to my friends

Hello my Friends,

I have been so sad of heart when I learned my friend Bella went on to the great adventure while I was away in Dunedin at a show. I have been too sad to come and visit my friends on here. Bella I will miss you sooo very much at the shows you only ever growled at me once so that makes you my bestest friend for ever!!!!!

Your passing made us all sad in our family and only a week later to the day my mums oldest pup went to go to work and found her cat dead on the road, some horrid person hit and killed her and left her there for Nikki to find in the morning...poor Zilla she was a new mummy and we now have been raising 3 motherless orphans, Not that Im allowed near them!!!! The babies were only 2 weeks old when Zilla died not old enough to look after themselves. Mum was frantic on the morning we found Zilla none of the shops were open and the babies were hungry so she took off to find kitten milk, she went to rangiora looking for a vet open...nope not on Saturday morning so by the time she went to kaiapoi the pet shop was open and we saved the babies from starving. I watch through the bedroom window and keep my eyes on the babies or I sit under the window and listen to see if they are awake and let mum know.
Now Im going to brag, I couldn't do it before coz of Bella and Zilla.
I went to Dunedin for 2 shows on the Saturday I was not feeling very well and wasnt up to my best but I was called out first (which is a BIG thing) and ended up in 3rd place, not bad for a sick puppy, my peoples were pleased. On Saturday night mum sneaked me into the motel where they were staying the owner told her to coz I was pining for mum and not pleased to be sleeping in the trailer with my half sibs, stinky kennel dogs!! Anyway on the Sunday after a great night sleep with mum and dad I went showing, I was feeling great and I was going to do better that Saturday... I went in to my intermediate class was again called out first (woohoo) I worked my fluffy bum off and the judge liked me, eventually I WON the class!!!! First Intermediate bitch, I then had to go in to the intermediate run off with the dog who won his class (and he had won reserve in show the day before) the judge still liked me and guess what?? I won the class...yes the bitch beat the dog and that doesnt happen very often. The judge said I had the best forequarter she had judged all day!!! Wow my dad was in the same show and I did better than him. So we came home with 2 trophies my first trophies one for Best Intermediate Bitch and one for Best Intermediate as well as 2 new excellence medals so I'm a multi excellence girl and 3 new ribbons for my wall....ohh it was very exciting and tiring. Small note to all my dad competed in a show last weekend and won Best in Show...go dad!
My Biggest thank you goes to My Tony for going the extra mile with handling me when I wasnt myself, it cant have been easy.
Last weekend my doggy mum had 3 puppies, my mum and dad tried mating me this year but we got the days wrong the vet thinks I ovulate earlier than most dogs so next time mum will take bloods, that wont be till Feb next year as we have a National German Shepherd show in November that I'm going to be in so I cant have babies when I next come into season or I wouldn't be in condition to show.
Well mum has been sick all week but soldiers on to keep my walks up as I have a show this weekend, she is not working so we can be together for the show. Glad she not working I really dont like her working with other dogs and not spending all her time with me!!!! And those Labby dogs are so bad mannered and nothing like me, they jump up all over my mum and I smell them on her especially all the puppies... 11 of them grrrrr. But I suppose the lab dogs love that my mum talks to them and pats them though she told me she saves all her best pats and cuddles just for me!

So to end this entry again I say all our thoughts are with Bella's family at this terrible time, we will miss you Bella always xxxxxxx

My Birthday

Hello my friends,
Yesterday was my birthday...finally its my day for presents!!
You wont believe what my mum did.... she took me shopping for my present just like she takes the 2 legged pups. WOW I got to go shopping for my present and what a wonderful one it is. We went to 3 shops that lets us doggys go inside too, we went to The Dogs Breakfast Trading Company and to 2 Animates shops. At Animates I got given cuddles and treats when they found out it was my birthday, one young girl just fell in love with me and my beautiful cuddles and wants a dog just like me.:) Im one of a kind though! I sniffed at puppies looked longingly at the bunnies and was not allowed to get close to them, I checked out the puppy play area and looked at a frilled lizard....mmmm dont know about that. A bird gave me a wee fright by whistling at me.... it was really loud!!
But back to the present I was getting a beautiful new doggy bed, I got to try out lots to see if I likes them before choosing a striped pink squishy one with sides, it is so beautiful and comfy (Bella would love it) and I got a new collar for walks (lavender coloured) because we got a voucher as mum and dad spend lots of money on me there.
We took my bed home and mum put it at the bottom of the bed where I sleep, at bed time I went to my bed and didnt even get up on mums bed and I slept ALL night on it, I got up this morning for my treat from Jace and went back to MY bed not mums. Though I'm sure mum and dad are telling lies...they both said I was Snoring in my new bed....ladies never snore!! I also shocked mum by wanting to eat raw liver, though I must admit I adore it when she cooks it with garlic and a spoon of Marmite, she gave me some raw last night and I get cooked for the next few nights with my kibble.

Escape from the kennels

Hello my friends,
Things have been pretty quiet around our house lately my coat has dropped and Im naked. I have had some fun sitting in every muddy puddle that I can find on my walks, including this really manky stinky puddle at the rugby grounds but mum fixed me with that one last week, she parked the blasted car on top of the puddle to stop me getting into it....wrong I say very wrong.. A DOG SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO SIT IN ANY MUD PUDDLE SHE FINDS!! ( mum visited Bella on Friday and she laughed to see Bella as muddy as I get) It seems that Bella and family escaped from their kennels and found a great mud patch. Snap its not just me that likes mud ...MUM!
Well yesterday I went to visit my Tony and Annette and as they were busy they put me up in the kennels with my mum and sister for a visit. I had a visit with my furry family then noticed the humans had gone inside for a cuppa tea and left me up in the kennels..... well I tell you I was very unimpressed with that, I have goodish manners and since Chloe gets to go inside I decided I would try to as well. So much to mums amusement dad's horror and Tony's disbelief I escaped from the kennels, I opened the bolt on the gate and let my self out 'open sesame' :) what a smart puppy I am and very pleased with myself. Mum told Tony to be happy at least he didn't breed dumb dogs:):) hahaha it goes to show I am very intelligent and use my brain to get what I want.
Dad put me in the car until they were ready to leave, that made me happy to sit and wait and on the way home I got to have a quick run around with the other dogs at the Groynes dog park before going home.
So all in all it was a fun day out and my Tony knows I'm no dumb dog, apparently its a very stiff lock I opened on the gate....hahaha if I want to get out a silly lock wont stop me.

Winter walks

Hello my friends,
Boy its been cold down here the last few weeks. But I am in top show condition hard dry and fit so look out for me at the next all breeds show.
Last Wednesday mum and I went to the beach for a walk, it was cool but sunny with no wind perfect for a doggy to run and play and sniff everything. I chased them sea gulls ran through the surf and found a wee dead baby shark to sniff.. (after I chased the sea gull away from it) it was not that tasty looking so I don't know why the sea gull wanted to eat it...but I left it for the gull. There were kids and other dogs on the beach since its school holidays... there were even brave kids paddling in the water.. 'only kiwi kids would be in the water in the middle of winter' said mum it was about 8 deg C. I saw another GSD but it was not at all friendly and growled at me and I was no where near it. All the other dogs said hello to me.
Yesterday mum and dad took me to the Groynes Dog Park, one of my favourite places to go especially in the weekend as there are lots of dogs playing. I played with many dogs running around with them, I played on the agility equipment showing off to another dog when I ran up the A frame and stopped at the top. I even jumped on the concrete square and sat on command from mum... I'm very clever when I want to be. Some of the agility stuff I'm supposed to walk from the bottom to the top but I cheat and jump up :) We went through to the walking paddocks and I played and chased the dogs through there. I saw a huge doggy he was a Great Dane and I had to stretch up to sniff his personal bits... long way up too. Hehehe I found a nice muddy puddle and had to have a sit in it... oh no mum and dad were saying now we will have to go to the river... I was pretty sure I would need a swim coz when I stood up mud just streamed off me.. woohoo. Had a huge sprint around the bottom paddock, there's a nice racing track that I run around as fast as I can go... I look like I'm flying!! Well them 2 slow pokes slowly walked back towards the river and here I am waiting very impatiently to get in, jumping at the gate and looking back to hurry them up. Come on let me in to the river!! Had a nice swim and play with the dogs at the river I even retrieved a wee stick that dad threw into the water, did it a couple of times before I got bored and let it float away... let dad get it if he wants it so bad! We had to go back into the main dog park so I could run and get some of the water off me before I was allowed back in the car so off to play again...shame. This time in the park was a doggy even bigger then the Great Dane... I kid you not it was a white Irish Wolfhound and he was huge the size of the pony in the paddock across the street that I can see out the window. Well it took a very big stretch for me to sniff his bits but I managed it :) I had a great time playing with another GSD we ran really fast very nearly bowling dad over, keep out of the way of dogs playing. That dried me off and wore me out at the same time. Then we went up and visited my Tony, well I think my mum is going to have babies coz she was very growley to me and I was not even close to her, she is only like that to me when she is having babies, so more half siblings for me. Tony said I was looking in great condition and that my coat is starting to darken up....told you I look great!!!
Well I better go I have to get my nails done and mum has new batteries for the pedipaws.
