Arrival Story:
Cessi made her escape when the family, which kept her alone in the basement laundry room, weren't looking. She was picked up by animal control, and luckily for her current family, the laundry room family refused to claim her. Cessi was then rescued by a local rescue group, where her current mom was a volunteer at the time. Cessi was boarded at a facility the rescue group associated with, but she went home with her mom-to-be for the Labor Day weekend 2004. At the end of the weekend, her mom took her back, her heart very heavy. As mom was driving away, she could hear Cessi's cries from half a mile away. Mom made a U-turn, picked Cessi up and has never been far from her since. Cessi was officially adopted in February of 2006.

Cessi is a character! Totally sweet, a total people's dog! A leaner. A lap hogger. An argument arbiter (barking). Her intelligence is unrivaled. Her loyalty is beyond description. She is fun, and still loves to play despite her advancing age and graying muzzle. She bounds around playing fetch with her people and her canine brother Clooney. But!!! Unfortunately, Cessi is very dog aggressive to most other dogs. For that reason, she has to live by herself in her family's downstairs apartment. The house was purchased specifically with Cessi's tendencies in mind. It's working out fine. Mom has set up her office in Cessi's apartment, so the two of them hang out together a lot away from the rest of the crowd. The laundry room is there too, but Cessi doesn't mind because she is never locked up in it, and when dad does laundry, she hangs out with him and helps him sort by color (black is her prefered color). Cessi's family is delighted that they were able to give this difficult girl a second chance. Cessi is one of a kind and is thoroughly enjoyed by her people every day.

The Saga of Spirulina

Cessi's dad recently read that Spirulina is really good for dogs. So Cessi's mom sprinkled some on Cessi's food and put the plate down before Cessi, as usual, and as usual Cessi enthusiastically ran towards her food breathing heavily through her nose. The trouble is Spirulina is a really fine powder. It's almost dust-like. So, when Cessi breathed on it, it rose up in a plume the color of ink. It also has a strong sea-weed smell. Well, it appears that Cessi thought it was alive! She would stalk it, back away, stalk it again, growl, and try to "get" it from the sides. She was really uneasy about the whole thing. Muffled growls could be heard every minute or so but no overt attack took place. Mom left Cessi to deal with her food, hoping that in a few minutes the food's non-aggression would become apparent to Cessi and things would return to normal. That didn't happen. Cessi was still stalking the nemesis ten minutes later, when mom returned. None of the food had been touched. Well, the foe had to be mixed into the food with a spoon! Once it no longer rose in a plume of ink, the food became edible (and even good). Mom knows better now than to leave Spirulina sprinkled on top. None of Cessi's siblings had such a troubling experience with Spirulina. They just ate their meals and were done with them. Cessi is different. She is a funny girl.

Cessi really loves snow! Her pitch-black fur sets of the snow flakes, and she looks majestic when dotted with them. Cessi is a big girl and is now a middle-aged individual. Despite this, snow arouses the younger dog within her. She starts leaping into the air, with the grace of a true retriever. She has so much fun playing with her brother Clooney. They play so rough and run so fast that they tire themselves out quickly and then enjoy long naps back inside the warm house.
