Arrival Story:
My friend/vet had a client that bought a condo without reading the small print. ONE dog under 10 pounds. She had a black & white older Chin and Zoey/red& white Chin. Zoey was only 1 yr. old so she was the one that had to be re-homed. I had always had herding/working dogs, no one under 45 pounds. My experience with tiny dogs was ankle biting and yapping. Until I met Zoey. Unbelievably, no one had adopted her. She hadn't been outside, rolled in the grass, was potty-trained to a PAD! (THAT is NOT housebroken in my book!!) She didn't have a clue about leashes or "walking" with a person. Didn't know sit, stay, come, anything. So how in the world could that kind of cat in a dog suit live with me, Quinn, 4 large parrots in horse country? Easy - Quinn taught her how to be a dog. I truly can't take credit for any of her transition. Quinn became her hero. By the way, this wee Chin rarely barks. Only when she plays with her toys do I hear a teeny, tiny yip. There's not a mean bone in her little body either. The most difficult thing I've had to adjust to is trying not to laugh when I look at the little frog face! She stares right at you, just like the Border Collie. Chins are odd little creatures; fast a bullet, feet like a rabbit rather than "dog paws", sleeping on the top of the sofa like a cat, pure poetry in motion when they run, loves a blow dryer after a bath and thinks vacuum cleaners are means of transportation. Strange but intriguing....and never, ever dull.
