Nicknames: Mountain Goat, Ugly Mug, Little Poop (cleaned that one up for the kids) :)
Birthday: May 1st 2007
Likes: Brutus LOVES to run and play fetch; I sometimes wonder if he is part retriever
Pet-Peeves: He HATES being ignored, and almost demands to be right next to you all the time. Sometimes cute, other times it's annoying.
Favorite Toy: Brutus is a "power chewer" and quickly destroys toys that aren't up to the challenge. He enjoys kongs and nylabones.
Favorite Food: Brutus is on a rotating diet. He eats canned and dry food. Innova, Cannidae, Merrick, and Solid Gold are his main brands. He loves when I make eggs and bacon, cook out on the grill, and eats gas station beef jerky and hot dogs.
Favorite Walk: Brutus and I take a twice daily walk around the downtown area of our little town. There is a farmers market here during the summer.
Best Tricks: Brutus will "kill" and realease any toy on command, he knows his basic obedience, and lately has been learning to play hide and seek with the ability to find specific toys. He also is quite the tree/boulder climber.
Arrival Story: Brutus was found in the Idaho Statesman Classifieds after about a month of looking in shelters for a dog I connected with. He was 18 weeks old, and already on his second home. When I get an animal, it's a lifetime commitment. Brutus and I are now the best of friends; I deal with depression on a regular basis and Brutus saves my life every day that we get outside for some fresh air. He gives me a reason outside myself to get up in the morning and gives me something to focus on instead of my anxiety.
Bio: Brutus has the best of both breeds in him. He loves to play fetch, go on long hikes in the foothills, and go swimming in the Boise River. He loves short jogs while running next to my bike. While he has the "hunting" drive of a dachshund, he also is the sweetest dog I've met. He is willing to play and put up with any other animal no matter the size. He never leaves my side while I am at home choosing to follow me from room to room. He has an independent streak that is useful when out in the foothills. He scouts the trail and chooses our path, finding the best places to cross streams. While camping, nothing gets close without him letting us know. Brutus can always lead me back to the car no matter how twisted around I get.
