Kiana got her wings shortly before noon on August 11th 2009. How can it be she didn't get better & my brother did. They had the same symptoms, the same thing wrong with both of them. The treatment worked for my brother, but not for her. After she was admitted last Friday she only got worse with each passing day. By late Monday all hope was gone...it was time to give her peace & let her go.
We are heartbroken and at a loss for words. Tears falling, hearts shattered at what has happened here. We are so very thankful that KJ has come this far & is starting to eat a little more each day. But he has a ways to go yet before mom will feel that he is safe. He does have an appetite and is eating for mom. We are praying for a full recovery & many, many more years with him.
We have to tell you what we were told by a Petco employee the other day. Mom talked to someone at Petco and they told her they had 4 more people tell them their dog got sick after eating Solid Gold's WolfKing. The last one told them her dog went into Liver failure. We wish we knew who these people were. Would love to talk to them. But knowing will not bring our beloved Kiana back, but it may help to make some sense of it all & help someone else avoid heartache. Hugs your darlins' tight & make each moment count. Thank you again, we couldn't get through this without each and every one of you!
How we miss you sweet Angel...the Heaven's are graced by your presence now, as you watch over us Kiana, remember this is only temporary & one day we will be together again.
Love & Kisses to the Stars above where all our Guardian Angels watch over us & await us when it is our time for our journey home.
In Loving memory of our newest Angel...Kiana
BRIDGE OF LOVE
JUST INSIDE THE GATES OF HEAVEN,
IS A BRIDGE BUILT FROM LOVE
CALLED RAINBOW BRIDGE.
IT GLOWS WITH THE UNITY OF PEACE,
IT SPANS A RIVER OF THE BLUEST BLUE.
NO ONE IS ALONE THERE,
GOD'S ANGELS WAIT THERE FREE FROM PAIN
TO BE REUNITED WITH THEIR SOULMATES.
THEY GUIDE US TO THEM.
THIS IS A BRIDGE WATCHED OVER BY ANGELS.
WHEN YOUR HEART CRIES OUT FOR THEM THEY HEAR YOU
AND THEY WHISPER BACK,
I AM NEVER FAR,
I AM ALWAYS IN YOUR HEART,
I AM ALWAYS IN YOUR SOUL.
WHEN YOUR TEARS FALL
THEY ARE THERE TO HELP YOU DRY THEM.
WHEN YOUR STEPS FALTER THEY SEND OTHERS
FOR YOU TO LEAN ON.
THEY SEND YOU DREAMS, & BEAUTIFUL MEMORIES
TO HELP YOU HEAL.
THEY TOUCH YOUR HEART
WITH VELVET TOUCHES FROM GENTLE PAWS.
THEY HOLD YOUR HAND WHILE YOU REMEMBER
LOVE IS FOREVER & ALL AROUND YOU.
RAINBOW BRIDGE IS A BRIDGE OF LOVE,
A BRIDGE OF PEACE AND HEALING
WHERE ALL ARE YOUNG AGAIN,
WHERE ALL ARE WHOLE AGAIN.
REACH OUT TO A STAR
& THEY WILL FEEL YOUR TOUCH ON THIER ANGEL WINGS.
NOW IS YOUR TURN TO FIND HEALING.
RIGHT NOW THAT SOUNDS SO HARD,
I TOO HAVE FELT THIS WAY.
YOU WILL STILL ALWAYS MISS THEM,
HOW COULD YOU STOP MISSING SUCH PURE LOVE?
THE MEMORIES THAT YOU SHARE
EACH DAY WILL HELP YOU
A HEART BEAT AT A TIME,
EACH DAY WILL GET EASIER TO FACE.
YOU HAVE FELT SOMETHING NOT MANY FEEL....
THE TRUE LOVE OF AN ANGEL
♥Love♥ Forever & Always,
Rain, KJ & Mom

First I am so very thankful my brother is home. He has a ways to go, but it is so grrrrreat to have him here. But it is with much sadness I report that our housemate Kiana is in critical condition tonight. If there is no change by tomorrow she will be making her journey to the Bridge to join her sister, our beloved Angel Kiska.
She was admitted last Friday with the same condition as KJ. They started her on the same treatment as KJ. Within the first 24 hrs she got worse & has steadily declined since then. Their is just too much damage to her liver. Our vet wants to wait until tomorrow praying that somehow she will turn around. There is not much hope at this point. She is so very sick & my aunt does not want her to suffer any more. If there is no improvement we will be saying goodbye to her.
I have been asked what caused this. We have no proof & are not accusing anyone. But after all possible explanations have been exhausted, we can come up with nothing but their food. They were all eating WolfKing by Solid Gold. All 4 of us, KJ, Kiana, Jetta & myself became sick at the same time. All of us started 2 weeks of meds for what our vet thought was a bacterial infection. Jetta, Kiana and myself got better. The medicine was not working for KJ. He stopped eating & was admitted to the hospital. Liver failure. Less than a week later Kiana stopped eating & was admitted. Liver Failure.
I think it is important for people to know this & they can make up their own mind about what they feed. We just want you to be aware of what happened to our famly. By the grace of God, I am alright, the medicine worked for me & my aunt's dog Jetta. I only wish it had worked for KJ & Kiana.
Mom talked to the company & they told her they had no reports of any kind. They suggested a possibility. If at any time during transport from one facility to another if the food was left on a hot loading dock in the sun it would break down the natural preservatives & ruin the food. They were polite & understanding but without a sample of the food their hands were tied. How we wish we had even a small bit of that food to test. We now wonder what is safe to eat? It seems any and all food can become contaminated. Is nothing safe these days?
We are thankful that KJ is improving daily & hopeful for a full recovery, but our hearts are breaking for Kiana...Pawlease say a prayer for her & her family.
Thank you all for being here for us,
Love & lots of Hugs....

This morning at 8:30 mom picked up KJ. Mom was so excited to be seeing her big boy again after being away from him since last Sunday. They headed out of town to the specialist. After filling out the paper work KJ then had to have his belly shaved and then they were ready for the Ultrasound.
The test showed that the liver was not enlarged, in fact it was a little smaller than normal. All other organs looked good. The doctors wanted to be sure there was not a tumor or something similar causing the liver to fail. They decided not to do the biopsy at this time. After both doctors consulted on the phone it was decided to wait on doing this. The treatment KJ is getting is working. Not as fast as we would like it to, but working none the less. They then did a Mammalian Liver Profile. The ALT read 530. So even after the IV being out quite a bit in the last 24 hrs. the value is down!
Before mom left the specialist's office she got KJ to eat 1/2 a can of food! His first meal in about a week. He has lost almost 9 lbs since going to the hospital.
When they were pulling out of the clinic, mom got a phone call from her sister. Kiana, who is our Guardian Angel Kiska's sister & lives at our house had started vomiting last night & wouldn't eat anything. They took her in for bloodwork. She is now in the kennel beside KJ and has the same problem he has. They are giving her the same treatment that KJ is getting. She is a 10 yr old Malamute who mom loves dearly. Please include her in your prayers. She already has so many problems & her health wasn't the best to start with.
So after hearing this mom scheduled me to go in later for bloodwork. She was taking no chances that I was next. The testing showed all was fine with me. Thank Dog! I really don't think mom could handle 3 of us in the hospital right now.
Our vet told mom he thinks KJ is feeling better & definitely stronger than when he went in. He is alert & interested in what's going on around him. He is hopeful that he maybe able to come home late Monday. If so he will be following a special liver diet with careful monitoring of his progress.
Thank you all for your continued support, love & pawrayers!

Wanted to let you know what's happening today with KJ.
Mom is taking him to see the specialist in Sturgis tomorrow morning at 10 am for an ultrasound and needle biopsy. His doctor also took an abdominal X-Ray this afternoon. Although the treatment seems to be working and lowering the ALT we felt it best to get the ultrasound done so we know more about what is going on.
KJ's doctor called around 10 this morning and said the catheter had come out of the vein overnight, not sure how long it had been out. So he ran another blood panel and the ALT had went from 609 to 615. All over values were good. He was put back on the IV fluids for the rest of today and tonight.
Mom will be picking him up around 8:30 so she has plenty of time to get to Sturgis & go over his records before the ultrasound. She will be able to be with him during the procedure according to KJ's vet. His doctor said he was feeling pretty good today, wagging his tail & wanting out. He also said that he may not be eating just because of where he is. Mom had to board our Angel Banjo once for a few days and she never ate one piece of food until she came home. KJ is so super sensitive to everything, mom wonders if he would eat for her. Maybe she can try tomorrow before taking him back to the clinic after the ultrasound.
She can't wait to see him, but is dreading what they might find. Praying hard for results that will tell us more & let us know if we are on the right track with his treatment.
A huge thanks for all your kind & caring messages, pawmails, gifts & the love you have shown us. Mom wishes she had time to thank each of you individually. Know that we love you all & couldn't get through this without each and every one of you!
God's Richest Blessings to All,

I cannot thank you all enough for being there for mom, KJ and I. You are the most pawsome pals EVER! Mom is a little late getting this update posted, but couldn't go to sleep without letting you all know how my brother is doing.
His blood panel for Aug. 5th - ALT count came down another 131 points. After starting at 866 on Sunday, the count is now down to 609. We have a ways to go. He is stable, but still won't eat anything yet. His doctor says they have tried, but he won't touch it just yet. Hoping as the ALT continues to drop that he will get his appetite back. Mom is thinking that he is probably so depressed and thinking we abandoned him. He has always been her shadow & does things for her that he won't do for anyone else! Spoiled boy!
I miss him so much & mom says I am just moping around the house & laying in the bedroom all day. She took me to the park yesterday for a walk & I never pulled once on the leash. I just stayed right with her the whole time.
♥Blessings to you All!♥

Hello all & thank you so very much for all the love, prayers & support for KJ. It means so very much to mom & I.
Mom talked to the vet late this afternoon. He had just finished another blood panel to check the liver values again. It had gone down by 100 today! Not enough by any means yet, but a start in the right direction. When he was admitted on Sunday the ALT was 866, Monday after 24 hrs of fluids, antibiotics and Denosyl it had dropped to 840. KJ's doctor said not to expect to much in the first 24 hrs. It would take several days to see significant improvement if the treatment was working. We were so thankful to hear it had come down by 100!
We still have no idea what caused this to happen. And we may never know.
It all seemed to happen so fast. KJ just stopped eating last Thursday night & the water consumption quadrupled.
We miss him terribly at home and as much as mom wants to see him, both she and the vet agree it would only upset him & make him think he was coming home. At we don't want him to pull the IV out!
We would have updated sooner, but we had severe storms here late this afternoon and evening and mom was busy outside getting the horse's into the barn in case of hail. And when she came back in she had no internet service until the storms passed.
The only place she really wanted to be was with KJ, as he gets so scared during storms.
We cannot thank you all enough for your kindness. Please keep those prayers going....they are WORKING!

KJ went to the ER Sunday afternoon. He is still in the hospital & we don't know when he will be able to come home. He had not been eating very good & was drinking way too much water. On Saturday mom cooked him some hamburger and rice but he wouldn't even eat all of that. Both he & I had a bacterial infection that we were on medicine for. We don't know for sure what caused it yet. I got better & KJ didn't. The doctor says that something is attacking his liver & his ALT count is way too high. He has been on IV fluids since Sunday afternoon along with medicine for his liver & antibiotics to fight infection. He has no interest in food at all.
Mom called the vet this morning and they were waiting for his Dr to run another panel later in the day. KJ's doctor called a little while ago & there is not a lot of improvement as of yet. Everything on his blood panel is good except for the liver values. They did come down today by a little bit and he said at least we are headed in the right direction. Tomorrow they will run another panel & we are hoping and praying the values comes down some more. If there isn't more improvement by Wednesday afternoon we will be taking him to a specialist for an ultrasound & biopsy of the liver.
All our prayers are with you big brother. We pray the vet will be able to figure out what is wrong & you will be able to come home SOON! Our guardian Angels are watching over you & if mom's tears could heal...you would be well. Mom has never spent a night away from either of us & is not functioning very well right now.
Pawlease say a prayer for my brother...
Wuv you All, Rainy

On Feb 22, 2009 we lost a dear & cherished friend...Lassie joined the Angels at the Rainbow Bridge. Please say a prayer for her & her family whose hearts are broken. She was 4 yrs old with a heart as big as the sky, always there to help, to encourage & to share in joys & sorrows with us all. We will miss you sweet Angel...
LIFE...so fragile. LOSS... so sudden. HEART...so broken.
In the wake of such a loss, we're haunted by things we don't - and may never - understand. Yet the solace we seek may not come from answers. So we look for comfort in the belief of love's everlasting connection. May that love lift you, hold you close, and give you peace.
With Love...for Lassie & her family
From the silence of your pain I heard my name
and on the wings of light I have come
to see the sadness in your eyes
that cry so many tears
Can you see me, I am here
I will always be near you
to calm your shattered heart
and to make you smile at the memories
Do you feel me, perhaps a soft brush of fur
You ache to believe it's real
but you are afraid to hope
You brush away a strand of hair
But it was I, whispering.....
I am only here for but a moment
The silver thread gently quivers
I will leave behind my love in a dream
When you awaken, and without really knowing why
Your heart will know at last
That it is all right, for now
to say good-bye
