Arrival Story:
My name is Prince and I have a Nose that Goes. I just turned 17 on March 15, 2010. My Mom and Dad always tell me that I am the best puppy in the whole wide world. They whisper in my ear all the time how much they love me. Guess they should have named me Lucky, because I really lucked out. I have a dad who is the best Daddy in the whole world and I am so glad that my Daddy met Mommy cuz she has been the best Mommy in the whole world too. Ever since Mommy moved in to my house I get the BEST food a dog could ask for. Mommy actually cooks me people food, cuz she knows that the dog food does not taste as good, and she also knows that is is not really good for me. A lot of dogs get sick from the awful stuff they put in dog food and Mommy does not let me eat that stuff. I get chicken, potatoes, steak, and on my 17th birthday a couple weeks ago, they gave me a lamb chop... MY FAVORITE . She knew it was my favorite because last summer I nabbed a chop off the outside picnic table when no one was looking. I always check to make sure I get it when no one is looking, then try to wolf it down before they figure it out. Dont know how they always know! I cant do it any more cuz I am getting too old to put my paws up on the table and grab stuff , plus, I can't see very good anymore. I had to have my left eye removed last year because I had a tumor. My vet said it is from too many vaccinations. After I had my eye removed I had to find my way around the house with one eye and my nose, but I have a very keen sense of smell, so I sniff my way around. Below you will find my video of the day I returned home after I had my eye removed, and you can see that I am unstoppable when it comes to sniffing out food! And on my 17th birthday, my entire family celebrated. It was my sister Katie Bella's birthday, too, she is a 16 year old Beagle. We LOVE each other and often cuddle up in the same bed at night. I am one of four dogs in our home. I am Prince, the King of the pack, the Top Dog. My brother Dudley moved into my home when my daddy met my mommy. It was a Yours, Mine and eventually Ours situation. Soon after Dudley came Katie Bella. When Dudly first moved in, I was a little unsure of him. He is a little Jack Russell terrier mix, with a growley and fiesty personality. But I was able to keep him in check without too much trouble, as I was not willing to give up my alpha position at any cost, no matter how much he growled. Eventually, he got the hint and soon stepped into place. But he still growls when he does not get his way. I think he is just a bit spoiled. Dudley lived with us for a couple years, then when my mom and dad got married we became an official family. I love my Mom and Dad so much. In my younger years they took us for walks all over and let me sniff and track all the critters in the woods. I dont do that much anymore because I cant walk far and I get a little confused, but I have wonderful memories and sometimes we take a short walk down memory lane. We always went on lots of family outings; walks, camping, jeep rides, boat rides and hiking in the mountains, and I howl whenever Mom or Dad ask me, "Prince, do you wanna go for a jeep ride?" Or "Boat ride, Princey?" Sometimes they ask, "Wanna go to Long Lake?" That is where we used to go camping in the mountains. All the neighborhood kids get a kick out of my howls, so they ask the questions, too. I howl for them, just to humor them, but I know that only Mom and Dad can take me for boat rides and jeep rides! We are a happy family and things were going very well, when one day we all went on an outing to PetSmart to pick out a special treat. Duds and I love our trips to PetSmart, (provided we were not there to get our nails clipped!) Mom says, "Show me what you want", and we sniff all over the store until we find the best treat we can find. Duds taught me to sit when I find the one I want because that is how mom knows what to buy for us. So I followed suit, and Mom buys us whatever treat we sit next to. But this day was special. When we entered the store and started to track for treats, I heard the howling bark of a Beagle. I perked up my ears and led the pack to the back of the store. And there she was, a beautiful female Beagle that was up for adoption. Her name was Katie, and she smelled very familiar. I was certain I sniffed her behind before. My mom recognized her too, but not from sniffing her. She said, "I know that dog, her name is Katie!" And she was right! Katie was our neighbor. We used to see her walking on her leash around our neighborhood streets. What happened? Why was Katie up for adoption? We found out that Katie's family could no longer care for her and had given her up for adoption. My mom said we would take Katie home with us to see how she got along with our family. Katie fit right in and found her place in the pack. She needed a little help understanding the house rules, and pee-peed on the floor a few times, but she learned how to go through the doggie door really quick! She was smart and very sweet. It seemed Katie was happy that she found us, and I liked Katie immediately. Even though I am neutered and she is spayed, we really took to each other quickly and soon we were in love. Katie came with us on walks, and enjoyed the family outings. On our walks, she alerts us to any animals lurking in the woods by baying loudly. She has a howl that could light up the night sky. We think Katie was once a hunting dog. At first Katie would not jump up on the furniture at our house. Perhaps she was not allowed to at her old house. But our house functions soley for the comfort and convenience of two spoiled dogs and Katie made three. Soon Katie got comfy on the couch for her naps, and I taught her how to circle around so that her head ends up smack-dab on the pillow, just like a human! She has her own doggie bed, but sometimes she likes to sleep on my bed cuddled up next to me . I like when Katie cuddles with me. As she got comfortable in our house, Kate tried to gain status by striving to be top dog, but I wouldnt have it. Every once in a while I had to put her in her place. That is MY position, and will be forever, because I am Prince, the Pampered Pup, the King of the Pack and the Best Puppy in the Whole Wide World! I am the Pup that all other dogs strive to be! On April 5th 2010, I crossed the Rainbow Bridge. I was getting old and my organs were failing. I did not suffer, but I needed to cross over. My mom and dad said it was OK to go see Grandma and Grandpa on the other side, and jump and play and sniff again. When I knew they were ready, even though I knew they would be very sad, I passed away in the arms of my loving human family. All my friends including all the children I got to know very well got a chance to say goodbye the day before which was Easter Sunday. The kids made me cards that were so precsious, they are still on my memorial. My love, Katie, was by my side the whole time, and I know she was very sad. When I died, my family lit all the candles in the house for me, and burned sage in each room, remembering everything I did. In response, I made all the electricity go off in their house, just to let them know I was OK. I even made most of the neighborhood electric go out for a few hours. Oppps, didnt quite have a handle on my newfound abilities yet. Every night they light candles for me next to my pictures, in loving memory. I had such a good life and so much to be thankful for. Because of my mom and dad I never knew hunger, cold, abuse or the confines of a cage. I always slept on a bed, either mine or next to my mom or dad. I had a pillow for my head when I wanted it. I was never in a shelter, even though my 3 siblings were all rescues. I love my family dearly and I know they are grieving, but I want them to find peace in my passing because I am doing fine with my friends and family in the spirit realm. I miss my human family and I visit them all the time. My spirit is in every room right along side them, and I protect them all, and will continue to do so though eternity. I just miss their touch, and I know they miss mine too.
