Best Tricks: Imitating a human

Arrival Story: Foxy was found in Washington Heights by NYC Animal care and control on Nov 17th 2004. He was very nervous and timid, and thus could not be shown to adopters visiting the shelter. Fortunately, the wonderful Patti from New Yorkers for Companion Animals agreed to take him to boarding and try to find a home for him. She brought him out of his shell and listed him on Petfinder.com. On December 3rd, I saw his listing and fell in love with his goofy smile and fox-like appearance. When I met him the next day, he was not timid around me at all. Patti and I knew this was the perfect dog for me. Now, Foxy and I are utterly inseparable. This was one of the best decisions I've ever made. He has made me a mix-breed convert, and I would never trade him for any other dog no matter how fancy the breed.

Bio: Foxy has become my closest companion. It has been wonderful to see him change from the nervous, 10 and a half pound dog I adopted, to the 13 pound "whirling dervish" he has become.
It was obvious that whomever had taken care of him for his first two years, left him with a fear of men and loud noises. Of course, the fact that he was not neutered clearly indicated that his former owners knew little about proper pet care. It took half a dozen visits from my husband, Jean-Marx, for Foxy to learn to trust men again. Thankfully, Jean-Marx has that gentle "dog whisperer" gift that draws all animals to him (see picture). Now Foxy extends the same curtosies to him that he does to me--including the classic "I-want-you-to-wake-up-now-so-I-wi ll-stand-on-your-chest" morning greeting.

Mom just told me that I am obsessed with the Zen quandary:
How many licks does it take to get to the center of a human head?

*To the tune of Mr. Plow
Mr. Foxy, that's his name
That name again is Mr. Foxy

I had my first trip to the Brooklyn Dog House yesterday. For a minute I was a bit unsure of the other dogs there, but then I ran into my pup pal Randy! We had never met in real life before, so I was very excited to be there on the same day as him. The two of us and a boston terrier named Domino, I think (I'm bad with names), spent the rest of the day together.
It was really a great experience, and I didn't even mind the strange humans picking me up. Mommy told me, when she came to pick me up, that I did wonderfully, and that we would be back once a month. I can't wait!
