Life is starting to look up for me. I was living with a foster family for a long time. They were great, but I knew it wasn't permanent. I was kind of nervous about where I was going. Would they be nice? Would they hurt me like my first home? Would I have brothers or sisters? And in an instant all my questions were answered. I had a home; I had a sister; and I had a mommy who loved me. Even from the beginning she was so nice to me. Always trying to make me feel at home and comfortable. My sister, Moxie, was so much fun. Full of energy and always wanting to play. She has helped make things easy for me to feel like part of the family.
A few weeks later, after I had gotten fairly adjusted to my new family a strange man came into my life. I don't, well didn't, like males. They remind me of my past. But this male was different. He wasn't threatening and was actually comforting to me. My mommy turned into a totally different person too. Not in a bad way at all. She was so much happier when he was around. Moxie told me he was my daddy. He's a great daddy. I feel very relaxed with him. He even taught me my first trick! But then mommy and daddy were so excited I learned it they started cheering and scared me. But I bounced back quickly and went back out to play more. This was my first Christmas with a family I can really call my own. And Santa even came to visit!
Then my daddy left. I don't know how my mommy does it. He goes to play GI Joe in the Army so he's gone a lot. Moxie and I can tell mommy misses him so we try and make her feel better. She doesn't go out anymore. She always stays home with Moxie and me, but she doesn't seem to mind. She loves just sitting in the living room playing with us. As long as mommy is happy and staying strong for daddy then Moxie and I are doing our jobs.
Less than 2 months ago I was hiding behind couches and tables. Now I can "shake" and I love playing with my sister. My favorite hang out spot is laying between mommy and daddy ON the couch or curled up with Moxie on mommy and daddy's bed. Less than 2 months ago I wasn't sure what a real family is and now I have my own family that I wouldn't trade for a giant bag of doggy treats!!!!
